The rule mentioned is for "caught unawares". In other words, if you are in
a normal breathing function and suddenly "snuffed", you (on the average)
have a flex volume for breathable air in your lungs of about 6 seconds
worth. At the end of that time frame, you begin to suffocate. *BEGIN* In
game mechanics terms, and in real life for that matter, at the beginning of
the suffocation period is when problems arise.
Yes, there are exceptions to the rule as with nearly everything, but on
average, he's got it fairly close.
