Well.... One of the popular theories over in ED land is that many of the
immortal elves (not necessarily all, but many) are in fact dragon-kin.
That's why they're (effectively) immortal. In fact, part of the reason there
is a rivalry between the IEs and the Dragons is because the dragon-kin were
originally created as a servant race during the Age of Dragons. When the
dragons went to sleep during the magical downtime, the servants basically
rebelled. When the dragons came back, they weren't happy to discover that
their "children" were now an ungrateful bunch of power-hungry manipulators.
It is suspected that this history is the reason for the ban on dragon-kin.
Of course, much of this is conjecturee based on bits of information
scavenged from various places, but it makes sense, doesn't it?
