Beyond the Shadows is an SR companion book concentrating on improving your
characters. it contains a revised skill web, a breakdown for the creation of
shapeshifter characters, expanded info on contacts and enemies and a lot of
handy stuff about Karma, Magic, and GM'ing that the SRII never covered.
i was thrilled to discover th'section on "Edges and Flaws' which allows you
an extra step in character creation. Edges and Flaws work similar to your
skill web, and can be beneficial and detrimental to your character depending
on the situation... even a Flaw can save your characters butt by keeping
him/her from getting in on a seemingly "good' run because his/her temper got
in the way... when it comes out that everyone on that run was waxed without a
trace... enh... you get the point. For years i've used Edges and Flaws and
had almost violent arguements with GM's who refused to accept that my Xya
character had a 'compulsive' trait that I wanted to use to take -1 off her
negotiation skills.
Anyway the book also runs down a stack of european metahuman variants that
might might a nice addition to any team.
