engines are 1.5x more efficient then IC engines.
Now on to turbocharging....
My idea for turbocharging is that it will increase both power and mass of an
engine without increasing the size. I really don't know anything about TB in
real life so I don't know how realistic this is but I believe it will work in
game terms.
After determining the base mass and power of an engine (according to engine
type), multiply each by a factor representing the level of turbocharging. I
suggest an increase in engine power of 10% and in mass of 20% per level of
turbocharging. maximum of 5 levels. Also signature is reduced by TB -1 per 2
full levels.
Example:
Joe chooses a 100kW IC engine as his starting point. This engine has a mass
of 316 kg and a size of 316 ESU. [These calculated values may be in error. I do
not have a calculator handy.] If he choses to add one level of TB.
power = base power * 1.1 or 110kW
mass = base mass * 1.2 or 379kg
size doesn't change
signature = base signature
If in later on he addes another level (total=2)
power = base power * 1.2 or 120kW
mass = base mass * 1.4 or 442kg(Rememer this is only engine mass)
size remains the same
signature = base signature - 1
Customizing the engine would be very similar. There would be a 20% increase
in power and a 40% increase in mass per level. size would remain the same and
signature would be reduced by 1 per level with a maximum of -2. Again 5
levels of customization would be maximum. I won't provide an example of
custimization since it is the same as level 2 TB except signature is at -2 and
has the dangers listed in RBB for costumization.
When combining TB and costumization simply add the two adjustments. Example:
level 1 TB and level 1 customization.
power = base power * 1.3 or 130kW (1 for base + .1 for TB + .2 for Cust.)
mass = base mass * 1.6 or 506kg (1 base + .2 TB + .4 Cust.)
same size
signature = base sig. - 2 ( -1 for TB, - 1 for Cost.)
Alright what do you think? Make any sense?
