Message no. 1 I just got off the telephone with DLoH (Tom Down) and I believe that the
problems and concerns we have with regards to the mailing lists and the
NERPS project have been solved (yay!).

Tom has informed me that FASA will extend to one person (me) written
permission to operate the four HEARN mailing lists. That person needs to
act as Supreme Overlord of the NERPS books to make sure that the specific
rules of the license are met (ie, I approve JD Falk's copyright
information before it goes out on the net). That person will also be
given permission to offer printed, bound and signed copies of the NERPS
manuals in a non-profit manner.

If, for some reason, I lose my mind (or worse, net.access) who ever takes
over as Fearless Leader will have to get re-licensed for that person.
If, for some reason, the lists break apart from a central contact, each
person will have to work out details with FASA.

FASA has been very good about this dispite all the problems and
opportunities they had to say "piss off" :-)

They ain't no T$R, that's for sure.

I'll be sending them a letter later today or tomorrow along with copies of
the NERPS books. They in turn will keep my letter on file and smail me
back a letter of permission. This letter WILL be posted to the list in
order to keep the specific allowances of the license public domain, and
the FAQ will be modified to show the blessings of FASA.

Tom sounds a lot younger than imagined.

Tom refused to tell me Doom's name. *grrrrr*

Why Seattle? When they gave me the address as in chicago, I asked why
they chose Seattle as the center of the SR universe. The answer was much
kooler than I expected. Seattle, for a large city, is virtually unknown,
but New York, Chicago, L.A., etc all have reputations. To choose one of
those cities woudl make it difficult for people to accept the kinds of
changes that SR puts forth. Kool thinking on their part.

Great! Now THIS is real stuff. A real company...and to think I was
debating about the stuff over on rec.games.mecha (how do newsgroups work now?)

You still selling all the NERPS books, then?

Newsgroups are pure, unadulteraded, anarchy. And we like them that way.

I will be. I won't be doing that until I have the letter IN HAND. In
addition, there are a few changes I'm going to make to the documents to
fix the problems with the copyright information and a few other things
(like, Foundations REALLY needs and introduction, which in the mad rush
to get it out the door, I didn't put in.)

I also need to sit down and re-evaluate exactly how much reproducing
NERPS costs. The printer I was using before went out of business so the
prices are a little higher now, unfortunately.

thats why I by there stuff and not T$R's anymore

Suggestion - Put a section in the book that says
"This is why it costs what it does"
and then put in the cost
Print cost + mail cost + tax cost ? + misc/gas cost (to bring money to even #)

He's probably in his mid'ish twenties I figure - I wonder if he actually even
finds time to really role-play, or if most of his time is spent working and
such?

DOOOOH!!! now we really have to have that get-together in Minnesota with the

Yep - and they made it sound very credible from a growth and economy standpoint.
Seattle (and Oregon) are already growing with people diseffrancised with
California. It also becomes more populous because many Americans get shoved
there after the indian wars, and gains more international trade becaude it it
the ONLY west coast port for the UCAS and California is to controlled and
hindered by Japan. In all they made many things sound plasible and neet.

Bug City - why does everyone keep mentioning Seattle? DO we know this for
SURE? or is it just speculation from vague (or not so vague) hints?
Personally I doubt that FASA would have leaked what city it is going to be,
their just like any GM with a fun Idea - throw hints and rumors but don't tell.
I like it that way - it makes me want to buy :)
