Exactly what happens is:
A person subscribes, and confirms to the LISTSERV that they
really _did_ want to subscribe.
At this point, the LISTSERV will send me a message saying
something much like "Joe Average User <user@****.dom> has subscribed to
the ShadowRN mailing list."
I log on not less than once every thirty hours (much more on some
days), so as soon as I see the message I'll invoke a shell script which
sends out the FAQ. Like any other Internet EMail, the usual delivery time
is two minutes to two hours.
Unfortunately, I cannot gurantee that anybody will actually read
the thing.

These messages were posted a long time ago on a mailing list far, far away. The copyright to their contents probably lies with the original authors of the individual messages, but since they were published in an electronic forum that anyone could subscribe to, and the logs were available to subscribers and most likely non-subscribers as well, it's felt that re-publishing them here is a kind of public service.
