the participants(we) are starting to loose interest in the subject after
a lot of brainstorming and the constant repetition of old ideas.
Let us get our ideas together and make a system out of this amorphous
mass of ideas. The following writeup is IMHO the way the psi system should
look like. I'll try to make myself as clear as possible so as to avoid
any misunderstandings.
I) The Chart: The Chart should be 100% compatible to the SRII Chart,
it should also prevent players from becoming Psi/mages. Therefore my vote
goes for Dooms idea of using the standard SRII Chart with Psis treated as
mages. There should be 3 Types of psis, full psis, adepts and wild psis.
Full Psis should have the chance to buy all categories(disciplines), adepts
half of them and wilds only one (with other limitations).
II) The Categories(Disciplines): The system should include about 6
Psionic categories(disciplines) that should be bought at char gen with
Force Points. Categories that are not bought are considered latent and
can be awakened during play with awesome amounts of karma.
Those categories will be natural talents a Psi can use anyway he
chooses, with dice equall to his categories rating (and the drain code of
a similar power). Categorys COULD have upper limits, this however should
be an optional rule.
III) The Powers: Each category will have powers. Powers are special
skills a psi develops with the use of his talents(categories-disciplines).
These skills make it easier for psis to channel their power in one
specific way thus giving them more dice. dice equall to the powers rating+
dice equall to the apropriate categorys(disciplines) rating. Each power
should have a drain code much as spells do.
IV) The advancement: Psis will be able to train in their categories
(each level costs next-pointX2 e.g. I have a telekinesis rating of 4 and
want to raise it, I have to pay 10 karma to get a rating of 5). Powers
cost only as much as the next point e.g. I have finite manipulation at 4
and want to raise it, I pay 5 karma and get a 5 rating Finite manipulation.
A psi can always try to awaken latent powers (only if he already hasnt got
a rating in all his allowed categories(disciplines)-6 for full, 3 for adept.
This however costs heavy duty karma.....
V) The Pool: A Psis Pool should be derived from his category(discipline)
ratings. The Willpower aspect of Mind over matter can be seen in the drain
tests.
VI) The Drain: Drain should be countered with Willpower.
VII) Sustained Powers: Sustained Powers could either be treated as sustained
Spells(+2 to all Target Numbers) or they could simply deduct 2 dice from the
Psis Pool.
I tried to make this a short and comprehensive as possible, I am
anxiously awaiting your feedback.
