I had an interesting ICQ chat with AdamJ today which drifted in to the
realm of NERPS (but unfortunately its all stored on my work compy, so
I'll have to regurgitate the conversation from memory...):
After a bit of discussion about NERPS publishing styles, HTML, & such,
we came to the topic of:
"WHICH RULES WOULD NERPS USE: the BBB or the BABY?"
Especially with the constraint of wanting to release "EdgeRunners2" with
as much quality & haste as possible.
The point/counterpoint went something like this:
PT: "SR2, with an SR3 conversion paragraph," would have mass-appeal to
more of our internet followers Right Now, most of whom won't have a copy
SR3 for quite a while, if ever. So they could use the product 'right
out of the box,' as it were. (Not to mention the fact that many of the
NERPS developers won't have SR3 for a while, either.)
CTR-PT: "SR3, with an SR2 conversion paragraph," on the other hand,
would appeal to the curiosity of the NERPS followers. It would be one
of the first tangible products using SR3's char-gen rules & could be
promoted as such. Also this would add to the book's staying power (&
save us having to convert-and-re-release it at some later time). Plus
Adam added that he believed most of the NERPS developers are planning to
get SR3 (eventually...)
The SR3 format seemed the better choice, but what of those "NERPS
developers, sans BABY" (of which I'm one - Grrr!) ?
One suggestion would be to assign someone to fulltime "conversion
duty." That way, those of us less-fortunate heathens could continue to
create & submit SR2-formatted characters to ER2 unhindered.
I'm sure there was more to it then just this, but the mind numbs...
Comments? Critíques? Flames?
