A different score for Bioware makes sense, especially since
Bioware already had that kludgy thing with the STR score. So, perhaps we
should have an optional rule that the STR(Bioware) number is, for
Psionics, additionally subtracted from Essence.
For example (since examples seem to be the Law of the List right
now), Emmanuel Q. Sampleperson (Reginald's nephew) is a Psi adept leaning
strongly towards the more combat-oriented Telekinesis manipulations. He
has assorted cyberware, bringing him down to 2.8 essence.
Then, he gets shot up real bad -- perhaps a panther cannon in the
back. The street doc who treats him doesn't understand about Psis and
bioware, and decides to install 3 points worth of new guts (he really
only needed 1.4 points' worth originally, but this street doc isn't
really very good.)
For Psionics purposes, then, Manny's essence drops to -0.2; he
loses all powers.
