No, this isn't Adam, it's Gurth using Adam's PC (so forgive bad spelling
and especially missing spaces, because his keyboard sucks... :)

Yesterday, I sort of skimmed through the NERPS posts made during the past 2
1/2 weeks, and thought it might be a good time to make some comments of my
own now, instead of waiting for a week or more until I get home.

When I had time to think (like while I was on a plane or train) I had the
idea that turning NERPS into a Shadowrun magazine might get our asses into
gear -- make NERPS similar to what Adam does with TSS, but written on the
list like we've done for the net.books for years. Only listmembers'
articles would be elligible for submissions, and they'd be open to the
normal commitee-based writing we tend to have here (i.e. you post
something, others comment, then you adjust your article and repost; repeat
if necessary).

This has several advantages, IMHO: most important is that we don't have to
stick to a theme for each issue, so any kind of submission would be
acceptable, from locations to gear to spells to fiction and beyond (just
not too much fiction -- it's part of what made Shadowland a mediocre
magazine, if you ask me). We would have an easy time for the first few
issues, as submissions for the NAGTTW and Stuff could be used
straight-away, plus other items that people care to post.

Another advantage of doing a magazine is that it doesn't have to be 100+
pages to make a file -- 30 to 50 would be sufficient, and so we can finish
them faster and more easily than we can a full book (as I think the NAGTTW
has proven).

Just something for all of you (and me) to think about until I get back
home, get over 9 hours jetlag, and download my own mail :)

To me, the theme books are what make NERPS good. If we decide to take NERPS
into a magazine direction, I would still be into doing theme books in some
venue or another.

You could use the magazine as a showcase for some of the input for
NERPS net.books. Kind of a preview anthology. There are people out there
that may have some good input but need an "instant gratification" fix for
their stuff being published.
Once all the input is collected/finalized bind it up into the net.book.

Yes, I think we should keep doing books. However, a magazine
(which I still think is a good idea) would help keep listmembers
interested -- after all, it's a place where articles and ideas that
don't fit with the current "theme" book can be published.

The recent sidebar about name reminded me of the GameName generator I found
on the net. It just generated random names from text files. I'm not sure
who worte it but I think I fouond it a Paolo Marcucci's website. If it's
decided to include the magazine, since using it to replace the books is a
bad idea IMHO, maybe we should include addresses of programs designed for
SR, to help people find them if they want them. Though the programs are not
exactly what this list has done in the past, arguably they do fall under
Net Enhancements for Roleplaying Shadowrun concept. If the magazine comes
out on a regular basis then updates of new tools could be a small section.
Just an idea.

I have this feeling you'll find my name & address in the About bit
somewhere... :)

Probably, but since it's sitting on a tape backup, someplace in the
collection, I'm not about to find it soon, so I'll take your word for it.
Seems the idea, of the address column, is not a good one. It wouldn't work
unless the mag came out on a regular basis anyway.
