Carp? HA! Haven't heard that one in a while. Yeah, if
someone insists on lame ideas for the ocean, then perhaps
they deserve to be THWAPPED! with a fully-automatic, clip
loaded, liquid-nitrogen cooled, gyro-mounted, smartlinked,
chrome and black finished carp cannon!

Seriously though, we need to seriously consider the
"intelligence" of marine creatures. About the only real
candidate I see are Awakened Dolphins; I really don't see
any other marine creature having the necessary level of
intelligence for advanced language. And the only real way I
can see communicating with them, aside from a special
magical telepathy, would be via mimicing their sounds. A
sort of vox box that would roughly translate human speech
(or thoughts for a cyber version) into the launguage of
clicks and squeeks and such. A companion dolphin-to-human
earpiece would also have to be invovled also (which could be
cyber).

Just my two pfennig.

carp cannon])

I'd like to see it too. (Since I'd like to think I was
responsible for the
addition. Course I could be wrong.) :)

If any Seaquest stuff is used for ideas it would be pre-DSV,
before it got
weird. I kinda like the idea of cyber to allow minimal
communication with
marine mammals. As for using Ocean movies for input, I would
suggest using
ones, like leviathan and Abyss, without the aliens and
monsters. The
submersibles and stations are good jumping off points.

I'll be honest, I don't want to see it get out of hand. My
original idea was
just a general overview of the oceans: Sub types, stations,
corp
involvement, surface vessels, water cyber; ie gills, mammal
comm gear, water
drones, rigging gear for ocean vessels, etc., more ocean
critters,maybe even
sentient underwater life (maybe thats were the T'Skrang
went) :). You get
the idea. Bottom line I'd like to keep it from getting crazy
but still touch
on enough to give everyone an idea of what could be out
there. If it does
become a book of its own we can go into deeper detail, so
pump out the ideas
and we can decide, as a group, whether or not to include it
in NAGTW or make
a NERPS undersea book, but that's later. Though with all the
discussion
thats been going on I'm thinking it will be leaning to it's
own book, but
thats just my own ideal world talking. :)

Should i get my carp net? :)

There was an adventure in a magazine (Challange I think) that had
awakened whales. They were said to be sentient and magically active,
but having no way of physically ccomunicating with (meta)humanity.
Being magical creatures they could astrally project and comunicated
with their friends that way.

They are the Leviathans.... They communicate by empathy and limited
telapathy.

Hey guys, considering that all of the big sea monster legends have come
back to life in the SR universe, any underwater complex would have to be
able to defend itself against one. Anyone got any ideas how?

Urp. Uh, who is actually working on the sea/ocean part of
the book? In other words, who is it that needs to see my
conversion of the CP Wavebook?

What I can think of right now: nets (can kill sharks and sea mammals,
though, so the complex could suffer from attacks by eco-terrorists as a
result), electrical fields (a great way to repel sharks), walls, submarine
patrols.

Mail server was down....... But I'd like to see it if possible. Also I'd
like to know from everyone who is writing something for the underwater
section what they are writing. I'm getting the idea that this is starting to
become a project of its own, and I'd like to keep track of what is being
writen for it. When I hear from everyone I'll post everybodies section so as
to let people know if their writing on similar topics. Thanks.
