There are currently eighty-five people subscribed to this mailing
list. Only ten have arranged for an author-ID#. A book can't be written
with this small a number of people submitting stuff.
For the other 75 of y'all -- consider this a guilt trip. There
are lots of good ideas floating around...just take one and run with it.

Well, most of my ideas get shot down ;-). Anyway, I have an
idea for a new type of magician. I played a game called Final Fantasy II
for the SNES I REALLY want to make something like a caller for
shadowrun. A caller is like a magician except, instead of casting seplls
they summon an animal to do there bidding. I had another idea for a
weapon-magi of sorts. All there magical energy is channeled through a
special weapon, allowing them to inflict extra damage. Dunno, just some
ideas.

Actually, what I'd like to see is a good SR write-up of a "beastmaster"
from the first movie of the same name. Ignore the second movie :-)

I'm afraid that I will have to sit back and play lurker. The only topics that
I know of currently being discussed on this list involve either, scionics
(one of the first things removed from the second edition AD&D manual and one
of the things most appropriately removed from the second edition AD&D manual)
together with a manual on a limited range of paranormal animals.

Psionics for the game has already been explained in either the NAGM or some
net manual and the abilities that it grants are recapitulated either by
spells or physad abilities in the plain vanilla rules (telekinesis,
pyrokinesis, telepathy, clairvoyance and clairaudience are all of them
covered and in some cases covered twice). The second topic is limited in
that, whatever you do with dragons adds complexity to an already complex game
and puts just a little more weight on the thin ice of believability and
consistency that we have to skate on to play the game (for example: a "young"
dragon [a young dragon is a new category all by itself] with a young and
fashionable female decker-type for a human form---the idea makes you want to
give up MTV forever).

With this in mind, I think it's best for me to lurk and wait for a book to
arrive on your projects list that I can really get into. If you ever find
yourself redesigning the street samurai catalog, or doing something about
magic, don't wait for me to ask for an ID-number, just assign one and send it
to me. Until then, I'll just lurk, thanks.

Well, sorry to have to tell you this, but everybody (including
myself) will be kicked off the list when we start over with a new project.
This was originally scheduled to happen around May 24th, but will probably
have to be postponed.
The Psionics project will just sorta continue piddling along until
either its finished or people stop having any interest in it, but we'll
still reset the list when the Dragons &c. project is over.

Okay, but still, it is interesting to see what is going on; to see what
people think, and what they find interesting in the game. This, much more
than anything that I have to contribute is reason to stay subscribed and to
resubscribe when the time comes. Right now, the most interesting thing is to
find out what the next project is going to be. Any indications or even
suggestions before night falls for the list on the 24th?

Thanks

It'll be the hot topic of discussion once this project begins to
wrap up. Current indications point towards either something heavy on
magic (though we should wait until NAGM is out) or heavy on decking
(though we should wait until VR2 is out.)
That's why we're doing this paranormal animals thing -- it was
the best idea we could come up with that isn't going to be immediately
overturned by official FASA rulings. *grin*

Hey JD, I _might_ decide to stay on NERPS (or resubscribe) when I get my
AOL account setup. But I'll be making that decision later this month.

Here's an idea or two about what the next project might be.

1) New Cyber and Gear! Everyone has cyber and gear not published by
FASA. Compile it together in a cool format, it could work.
Yes, I am aware CyberTech is due out this year (yeah right), but
unless FASA duplicates any of our "ideas," we have nothing to worry about.

2) A Mercenaries Handbook. A more indepth version of FOF. Guns and
Gear would have to be inlcuded, obviously, but we would focus more on
what it takes to be a merc, the lifestyle, how a merc team gets hired,
and a profile or two on both famous mercs and merc teams. This gets my
personal vote.

3) Howabout another Location Sourcebook? I've always thought SoCal
really gets the shaft in SR (I grew up there, and will be back there in a
week). What about other regions? Maybe it could be another version of
NAGNA, but focusing on different areas. That way each section wouldn't
have to be as long (as compared to a full sourcebook).

4) And of course, I will be compiling submissions for EDGE RUNNERS II,
which for the unelightened, is a homegrown and better version of Prime
Runners.

How about it?

Actually Erik - AOL isn't the only option.

From the looks of it - PrimeNet is very good with access
They give you 5 megs of space with a shell account - $20 in LA $16 in tucson
Or that account plus slip access for $25 in LA or $21 in Tucson

Plus - you can access your account in LA, Tucson, Phoenix etc

the rates are per month. - the number is 800-4-net-fun for the info.

I'll be trying them out this summer - but then again - I volunteired to be
Shadowtk log editor and will need the account.

Arizona Sourcebook - Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff will still be important
cities.

Just think of Sedona - we could say that a few of the starnger people went
magically active and helped out the Native Americans.

MUCH better version. :)

Also adding in the Magic and decking ideas and my comments on those.

Appart from the upcomming FASA publications list there is little out
about what this is to contain. It will have Borg rules according to
the upcoming publications list i saw and somewhere it said no bioware
so a bioware operation might be possible. Don't bother with full body
conversions, either wait for FASA or get the conversion of CP2020
chrome 2 off the net as this has conversions of the CP2020 ones to SR.

Not interested myself but as long as you don't duplicate fof not
likely to clash with FASA.

From the rec.games.frp.cyber FAQ France, Austrailia and one or two
others are to be covered by FASA eventually but there are gaps. Again
not bothered myself.

Magic.
Well as J.D. mentioned there is the small problem of the NAGA (or
whatever you like to call it). That one might be solveable if it
would be legal for someone who knows what is in it to put up a
review' list of 'FASA will cover these topics' Just as long as it
does not have any details of the contents of the playtest file?

If we can get around the NAGA hitch WITHOUT copyright problems i
would be interested in this, otherwise it might have to wait.

Decking.
Virtual realities 2 again, as J.D. mentioned this is on its way. I
have not seen any real hints about the contents. I was checking up on
the run (forgot the name '7318') that has the layers matrix rules in
it the other day and FASA sort of suggested this rule set might
become the basics of a new standard but they were not sure yet.
Therefore that might be in it anybodys guess what else, it all
depends on wether its a rewrite of VR1 like GR2 is of GR1 or a
totally new load of stuff that goes beyond VR1 rather than making it
totally obsolete. The latter is probably more likely.
Other note is do enough people use decking enough to make such a
project worthwhile.
