Tom (Dowd) view Australia as basicly a toxic mess.
The reasoning is that because of the aculturation of the
aborigines, and the loss of their traditions, there were not enough
shamans left who could control the magic (hence the mana storms, I
think some places also had high background counts).
The parts that are settled in Australia are basically
relegated to the coastal areas. Central Australia is a wasteland
The excuse behind part of the reasoning is that they needed
an example of a toxic wasteland (and I guess Australia lost).
In the Australian sourcebook there are supposed to be some
references/details about New Zealand.
And whoever got the contract most have fudged up severely,
because the contract was supposed to be let out in/about August 93.
Some quick comments:
I can see the fight between Australia/Indonesia, I don't see
any alliance/relationship worth talking about with India (which
probably fractionalized into a series of smaller nations). If
anything maybe a compromise between the Filipinos who are
population (and I think magically) heavy and Australian tech. The
other possibility might be the Japanese.
