I just remembered something that might be of some help to your writing on
Australia.
But in one of the FASA adventures there was a mention of Australias
Goverment accepting
help from some megacorps to help quell unrest in some of the major citys.
wait a sec while i look ....Yep here it is Queen euphoria the NewsNet
chapter at the back. Australian Goverment accepts help from Megacorporate
Security forces to Quell Unrest sparked by marches by Goverment workers
demanding higher pay.
just tought it might be of some help :)

When?? I assume that it was 2050, about when QE was set.

It's not a bad idea, in general; We have an abysmal record of strikes
by Government workers..... And in the past we have been known to shoot
those 'dissidents' manning the picket lines...... Of course they were
usually coal miners, and it *was* the great depression. *grin*

From that info, I'm going to conclude that there are a significant number
of Govt. workers, which means that the govt is relatively intact,
though they may rely on Megacorp support in emergencies.... It even suits
the megacorps to let the govt remain; They get stuck with all the
undesirable citizens, and all the drekky low profit services, like public
transport and sewerage.

Thanks for the info, BTW.

I've been reading what you had on Iceland and Australia, and I
remembered a little blurb in FOF that might help, I don't know though.
Here it is on page 24, "A decent amount of merc work exists in Australia,
mainly protecting supply caravans and enclaves against local and
preternatural forces. The pay is good, but the wildness of the region,
especially the rampant magic, is not for the faint of heart."

I don't know if it'll help, but I posted it anyway.
I also had a question. How do you guys play with the quickening spells,
as in do you guys play that you can ground spells through them like Foci,
or like any other spell, or just that you can't ground through them?
Also another question: Does any of you play that you can summon
nature spirits from the astral plane, or do you have to be on the
physical?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

I would also assume that Australia would NOT have gone the way of the
CalFree govt and allowed an Australian SanFran to happen. I don't think
I'm falling into the trap of making my country better than all the rest,
but I can't see Australia, the land of the "Little Battler", accepting
that. Australia traditionally has a much more left-wing/socialist ethos
than the US and I think that would prevent the almighty dollar from
having final say over *all* of our politics. While I quite see that
Australia is going to have a megacorp presence in the same way every
other nation does, it fits our plans to have Australia's governing being
slightly more independent of the megacorps than many others. Australia
would, for example, probably have granted corps extraterritoriality very
late in the piece. (Witness, for the Aussies, the MFP debacle...)

You can ATTACK a quickened spell, but you can't ground out through it -
at least that's how we play it. The rule books don't spell it out (pun
intended), so it's another of those things you have to decide for yourself.
But, if you ARE going to ground spells through a quickened spell, why would
anybody ever want a quickened spell?

No way! If you conjure in Astral Space, what spirit would you be
conjuring? Remember that Nature spirits cannot cross domain boundaries
unless they are Greater Spirits, and which domain is Astral Space in? As
for conjuring Greater Spirits from Astral Space, how do you go on an Astral
Quest when you're already Astral? Hmm, maybe it's like stacking spells?

Although these are more questions for ShadowRN and not NERPS, you cannot
(let's repeat that: cannot) ground through quickened spells. Mike
Mulvihill (the Shadowrun line developed at FASA) said so a few months
ago, finally more or less settling this never-ending debate.

I say you have to be on the physical plane, but I can't find any
references to the rule anymore :(

How about a new type of spirit that only exists in the astral. It wouldn't
be able to affect the material world directly, but it would be very effective
in the astral plane. You could keep it around to intercept incoming spells
(before they re-enter the material plane) or...

Oops. I forgot what list I was on. Maybe I'll have to resubscribe to the
ShadowRn (when I have enough time to deal with the traffic there) and get a
"discussion" going.

Don't think I'm trying to put you off, it's just that NERPS isn't really
intended for question about game rules.

I understand, I just haven't subscribed to ShadowRN yet.
