Azania
To Net Enhancements for Roleplaying Shadowrun<NERPS@********.itribe.net>

Okay, I am wide open for suggestions on Azania. Supposedly
they are important, very powerful (FASA _seems_ to indicate
they are in the top rung of nations, included with UCAS,
Japan, the Tirs, and so on), run by the elves, and make an
appearance in some SR novel. Which one, I'm not sure
(Nosferatu?).

The ONLY info I have on Azania comes from that bounty hunter
that appears in Prime Runners. Which means, not much info
at all. So what do we really know about Azania? I would
like to have more detail than what is current. If someone
could list out the known facts, that would be great.

BTW, I am planning, just so you know, to incorporate some of
the changes that have been suggested. I have been staring
at this document for well over a year now (initially for my
own purposes) and began to lose sight of some of the
weaknesses. Such as China needing more detail. Or making
the Basque nation wide open instead of isolationist.

Thanks!

And it's great that the list is finally reving up again.
Keep it up!

The only major thing that I can say with regard to Azania is that I doubt it
would be all *that* powerful. Within Africa they may have the most
comparative power, courtesy of the collapse of the South African regieme,
but I doubt that they'd rank with either of the Tir's.

Personally I'm sick and tired of the number of god-awfully powerful elven
nations that have sprung up, and I'd rather not see Azania as an African
version of the Tir.

A major point to consider is that African tribal relations are
_extremely_ violent, and unless there is a major change in attitude, I
can't see the tribes reforming along the lines of metatype rather than
ancestry. Strong traditions and pride like that take a lot longer than
half a life-span to die out. Perhaps in two hundred more years the
'Zulu' nation wouldn't matter as much as whether you're an elf or not....
but it would in 2050.

If Azania is a multi-metatype nation with the elves in charge it'd be
slightly more palateable (Though another bunch of elves running
the place is a little irksome) . The greatest discrimination against
outsiders would still be on the basis of tribal affiliation and/or skin
colour, rather than metatype. A Zulu troll would rank higher than an
Afrikaaner Elf.

Look. I'm not keen on having an African Tir. But that
appears to be the direction that FASA has taken. And
agreed, tribalism would be the most important factor. hence
the chaos in the Pan-African Federation. But since Azania
is an official FASA created nation, we need to respect their
direction until FASA creates a sourcebook.

So enough of the kvetching about African Tirs. What are the
KNOWN facts that we currently have on Azania???

Ok, how about that: Since I don't have any sourcebook where I am (That
is cape Town, South Africa - the warmest autumn I ever experienced) and
can't afford buying them I would like if someone could give me a short
overview of what is known.

I then will try to fill in the gaps and, hopefully, make an article for
NERPS: Neo-Anarchists' Guide To The World out of it.
A timeline of the history and a general idea of how that country is run
would be a good start, I think.

How sounds that?
