OK, this file is far from done, and needs a LOT of work (Cleaning up,
re-write, etc), but I figured I'd throw up the what we have done so far for
you guys to look over and critique...

Besides, this list has been FAR too slow lately (I don't think I've seen
any traffic through it in weeks!)

Neo-Anarchist's Guide To Cleveland
by Steven "Bull" Ratkovich and Steven Tinner

>Since me and Johnny are now living in the Cleveland Sprawl, and since
there hasn't been an official Neo-Anarchist's Guide put out for
Cleveland, I figured it was my duty to fill in the blanks with what I know.
Not sure if this'll help any of you out there, but at the very least,
enjoy.
-Bull (18:33:10 /12-03-57)

VITAL STATISTICS

>This is the official run down I pulled off the newsnet. It's
fairly accurate, give or take a 50% mistake rate. And don't forget, this
only takes into account tax paying SIN's, not SINless wonders like me
and probably you.
-Bull (18:35:23 /12-03-57)

>Hey now, Bull... I actually do have a SIN. Seven of them, in
fact. <grin>
-Cherry (17:23:02 /12-07-57)

Population: 4,000,000+
Human: 51%
Elf: 3%
Dwarf: 16%
Ork: 17%
Troll: 12%
Other: 1%

>Cleveland has a very high metahuman to human ratio, almost 1
to 1, as the numbers show. On the streets, it's even higher, probably
60-65% metas, and 35¬40% human. Cleveland has quite a few people
with Slavic ancestry, and this seems to be where the majority of
Cleveland's dwarves have their ancestry. I don't know if this holds true
everywhere, but here Slav's tend to become dwarves. Also, the elven
population is very low for some reason. Don't know why, though. Also,
that one percent of "other"? Rumor has it that's Vampires. That
rumor's unconfirmed as of yet, though.
-Bull (18:38:11/03-06-57)

>You don't know drek Bull. There's next to zero vampires in
Cleveland. Know why? Too much faith. There are a lot of churches in
Cleveland, everything from small street front chapels to huge Mosques,
groves, and what have you. The children of the night don't like the eye
of God upon them.
-Cuthbert (22:44:11/03-06-57)

>Not all of the Kin fear God, Cuthbert. Some of us have made
our peace with Him, and with ourselves. I've seen you over at St.
Matthews quite a few times. Be seeing you, Bert.
-Alucard (17:28:41/07-06-57)

Population Density:
Per Capita Income: 22,750 Nuyen

Means of Commuting to Work:
Internal Combustion Vehicles: 4%
Grid Guide Electric Vehicles, Personal: 44%
Grid Guide Electric Vehicles, Group: 41%

Other: 3%
Felonious Crime Rate: 13 per 10,000 per year
Education:
High School Equivalency: 50%
College Equivalency: 27%
Advanced Studies Certificate: 12%

>What the frag is this 50% high school equivalency? Get actual!
There is noway there are that many drekheads out there that actually
finished high school.
-Dropout (20:33:10 /12-05-57)

>Take into consideration the fact that listing does not cover the
SINless. It also lumps corporate education programs into HS
equivalency. Corp X trains some poor slot to run a plascrete extrusion
mold - that counts as HS equiv. As a guess, I'd put the Cleveland
Sprawl at approximately a whopping 20% HS equiv. That other floating
percent? Graduates of the school of hard knocks chummer.
-Number Cruncher (21:55:11 /12-07-57)

REBIRTH OF THE MILLS

Cleveland used to be a real steel town before the mills all closed in the
late sixties and seventies. However since Bug City, Cleveland has hit a
real upswing in heavy industry. Saeder-Krupp has brought many
cera-plas and plascrete extrusion and mixing facilities from Chi-town to
Cleveland. This has brought a lot of jobs into the area, as street workers
are returning to the mills in record numbers.

>Oh sure, real great jobs. Mixing toxic sludge into usable
construction materials. Baking ceramics in ovens hotter than a
dragon's breath. Whatever . ..
-Alvin Miller (18:14:25 /12-06-57)

>Hey there were some quality tech positions opened too. Plenty
of young college kids had a chance to get into the ind-chem field
thanks to SK's new mills.
-Apoligeticist (20:01:47 /12-06-57)

Getting to Cleveland

By Air
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport

This is one of the largest airports in the Mid-Eastern UCAS, now that
Chicago's airports are mostly gone or closed. Security at CHIA is pretty
tight, especially since someone recently blew up a plane with several high
ranking corp-types on it.

Be real careful what you bring in and out of that place, unless you've
bribed the right people, cause security is damned tight.

>Bull, why don't you tell them how you provided a distraction for security
while the real assassins went in and took out the plane.
-KM (18:02:36 /12-04-57)

>Frag off, Morgan. I'd never have done it had I known you were setting me
up like that. Still not tired of the revenge game, eh?
-Bull (21:19:51 /12-06-57)

>Burke Lakefront Airport

As early as the late 1980's Burke had fallen out of favor with
most commuters. To combat this loss of revenue, the owners started
using the airports a festival facility. Everything from rib burn offs to air
shows are held at Burke.
-Rib-Tickler (11:30:01 /12-06-57)

>SOM Local Airport

The South of Mentor airport started life as a local stop for small
craft, and little has really changed about it. It serves mainly as a shuttle
pad for well to do SOM biffs.
-Stinger (02:01:44 /12-05-57)

Government

Cleveland seems to be almost completely autonomous of the Ohio
State government. The current mayor is Samuel White, a distant
relative of a mayor from the 80'sand 90's who served as Cleveland's
mayor for 35 years. He held office longer than any other mayor in the
city's history.

Of course, ask the average Joe on the street, and they'll tell you who
really runs the government: the Mafia. Of course, they'll also tell you
that they don't really mind all that much.

Visitor Information

Lake Erie, one of the five Great Lakes and the newest center of Great
Lakes shipping, should have one huge "no swimming" sign on it. The
water is extremely polluted, and some pretty large fish swim in it. If you
want to go trolling for walleye these days, take a harpoon gun and
some heavy weaponry, cause the fish fight back.

>Anyone remember the fabled "Lake Erie Monster"? Well, it was
a legend akin to the Loch Ness Monster, a supposed huge prehistoric
fish that roamed the deeper parts of the lake. Well, it really did exist.
My grandpappy had some photos of it that everyone thought were fake,
and let me tell you, it bears a remarkable likeness to the Greater
Walleye. If there were elf and dwarf spike babies, why not spike babies
for some awakened animals?
-Old Man (12-31-44 /12-12-57)

>She was known as "The Erie Dearie", and she wasn't a spike
baby. She was and still is one of the largest free lake spirits on the
planet.
-Keaghan (18:38:11/03-06-57)

Sports

>I asked a friend of mine to do the sports section, cause he's
probably Cleveland's #1 sports fan. His handle's Mad Dawg, but don't
worry, he won't bite. Thanks, bud.
-Bull (18:46:09 /12-03-57)

>Thanks, Bull. Well chummers, this here's the lowdown on the
sports of the big C town. With Chicago out of the way (no offense Bull,
I know you're a bit sensitive about Chi-Town's situation), some of
Cleveland sport's biggest opponents are out of the way. The Bulls are
no more, the Bears are extinct, and the Cubs? Well, I will miss
watching the other teams trash them. However, this outta open up the
way for the Barons to make it to the big show, know what I mean?
Well, enough yakking. Here goes.
-Mad Dawg (18:49:41 /12-03-57)

Baseball

The Cleveland Barons are the remnants of the old Cleveland Indians
Major League baseball team. They are a Triple A ball club. The
Indians team folded in 2022, after several years finishing in last place
and some major boycotts over the name from several Native American
groups. A magical attack during the 2022 playoffs that killed over 100
fans as well as several players from the team finally convinced General
Manager John Matthews to disband the team. They were in serious
financial difficulty anyways due to the boycotts, and Matthews filed for
bankruptcy.

He started the team up again two years later as an independent Triple
A ball club using the name of an old Cleveland Hockey team, the
Barons. The team is currently owned and managed by Franklin "Spike"
Seronetti, and he hopes to get the Barons back into the Majors within
the next couple of years. With the two Chicago teams now out of the
picture, maybe the Baron's will get that shot. Or, quite possibly, the
newest rumor is....Cleveland White Sox anybody?

>I still say they shoulda just gone back to the old Spiders
name.
-Lachesis (10:46:42 /12-10-57)

>The name change came about mainly due to one act in 2022.
Some tribesman had warned the stadium owners that he would
detonate the entire bleacher section during a sold out Yankees game
unless the team changed names. No one took the threat seriously until
a wandering sec-guard found 22 cases of plastic explosive sunder the
cheap seats. Surprisingly enough, the owners managed to evacuate
the stadium, and disarm the device before any lives were lost. The
names was changed soon after.
-Way Back Wahoo (14:55:23 /12-11-57)

>If we do get a team, I hope it's the Barons. I'll be pissed if I
gotta get rid of all the hats and shirts I got with their logo!
-NoSox (12:55:20 /12-15-57)

Football

In 1995 the Cleveland Browns football team underwent some major
changes when owner Art Modell decided to move the team to
Baltimore. Now, despite the fact that the Browns hadn't won a major
championship in almost ten years, and hadn't managed to make it to a
single Super Bowl, the Browns still had a huge fan following, and these
dedicated fans put up a big fight to prevent the team from moving. The
league, in an attempt to pacify it's fans, compromised by allowing
Modell and the players to move, but the team name and colors would
remain in Cleveland and that the city would receive an expansion team
within the next five years to fill the jerseys and the stadium.

The new team didn't arrive until 2003, but when it did, it arrived big.
The team went 13-3 and won the division it's first season, and won the
Super Bowl the next year. To this day the Browns have remained a
powerful team and a dominating force on the gridiron, and have won
ten Super Bowls in the last fifty years.

>GO DAWGS!!
WOOFWOOFWOOFWOOFWOOFWOOF!!!!!
-Big Dawg (18:52:32 /12-09-57)

>I heard the big change with the Browns came with some
experimental drugs,some sorta super steroid.
-Factoid Freddie (11:33:28 /12-12-57)

>Get real and get over it, Fred. We all know you're a Pittsburgh
fan, so stop slammin' the Dawgs.
-Mad Dawg (16:33:51 /12-12-57)

Hockey

The Cleveland Lumberjacks became a member of the NHL in 2016.
They have been atop ranked team ever since, and have won the
Stanley Cup 7 times in the last 40years. Hockey isn't quite as big as it
was in the late 20th century, but it still draws a crowd.

>Not enough bloodshed in Hockey. <grin>
-Sagat (17:09:38 /12-10-57)

Soccer

The Cleveland Crunch folded in 2009. 'Nuff said.

>Soccer just never really caught on in Cleveland. This area has
always been strong supporters of Football, and trying to compete for
diehard Browns fans just doesn't work.
-Fut (22:22:22 /12-04-57)

Basketball

The Cleveland Cavaliers are Cleveland's BB team. They were NBA
Champs from 1998-2000, and again in 2012-2014. In 2048, Martin
"Code Red" Streets, a forward for the Cavs, was suspended indefinitely
for participating in illegal "shadow" work. He still runs the streets as a
Sammy named Code Red.

>He's a good man to have on your side, and not one to screw
over.
-StreetTalk (15:20:09 /12-10-57)

>Yeah, right. Code Red's in bed with the Mafia. He's their #1
hitman.
-Street Response (17:23:54 /12-12-57)

Urban Brawl

The Cleveland Commandos, Cleveland Urban Brawl team, draw a huge
fan following. As is usually the case in Cleveland, when the town
decides it likes the team, it goes wild. Thousands of fans travel across
the country to see the games, and it is one of the biggest sport in
Cleveland, second only to football.

>Let's go brawlin' now, everybody's learnin' how....

->C'mon Urban Brawlin' with me...
-The Lone Monkee (19:26:09 /12-12-57)

Radio

WMMS

Turn your radio to FM frequency 100.7 and you just might catch the
pirate radio broadcasts of WMMS. WMMS is something akin to a
audio version of shadowland. Specializing in Classic Rock and Roll,
and catering solely to the shadow crowd of Cleveland, this station has
proven very popular, even if the city government wants to deny the
existence of it.

The station itself used to be a rock station in the early part of the
century, but went bankrupt with the emergence of corporate run
stations and the trid. In 2050, the station was revived by a DJ known
as Leo the Kid, and began playing classic rock and telling the news like
it is, despite coverups the city and the corps would like to make.
Where and how they get their information, no one knows, but it is
always reliable and always correct.

Several attempts have been made to shut the station down, but no one
can locate it. The signal is heavily re-routed through almost every
country in the world and several satellites, and the signal is always
moving, making it impossible to locate the source of the signal. If it's
news worth knowing and the government doesn't want you to know it,
WMMS has it.

>WMMS is one of the last true bastions of free speech in
Cleveland. Every corp in town wants them shut down, but no one ever
seems to be able to find their transmitter. Wonder why? Who's backing
them? Look at the evidence. Make the connection.
-Theorist (01:01:01 /12-09-57)

>That station's a bunch of drek. They play drek music and can't
get their facts straight.
-ZOO (23:09:31 /12-12-57)

>Jealous cause you sold your station and I didn't, ZOO?
-Leo (19:12:16 /12-15-57)

Amusement Parks

Cedar Point

>While not exactly in Cleveland, the Cedar Point Amusement
Complex is close enough to be noteworthy. Located in Sandusky, a
mere half hour from the Lorain District, it has a 150 year history and
tradition of having the tallest, fastest, scariest, and sometimes deadliest
rides. Here's what the brochure had to say...!
-Bull (15:20:09 /12-08-57)

The Cedar Point Amusement Complex is one of the oldest Roller
Coaster parks in the world, and is renown throughout the world for it's
tradition of having the highest and fastest rides anywhere. The current
ride, the Slipstream, stands nearly 200 meters tall and travels at
speeds of over 120 MPH. It utilizes breakthrough magnetic levitation
(mag-lev) technology, and is a definite fan favorite!

>Hmmm, nice of them to leave out one important fact... The fact
that mag-lev tech isn't all that reliable. They've had at least one
serious accident each year in the three years the ride has been open,
and I believe the total body count is 53 dead, 22 seriously injured. Hey,
when you get something going that fast, taking those turns, and only a
big magnet holding you on...well, let's just say these accidents are
bound to happen...
-Prof. B. (15:19:35 /12-12-57)

The park is over 8 square Km of entertainment for the whole family,
with rides, games, live shows, and VR rooms. Cedar Point has just
what you need, so come on down for a good ol' family funday!

>Yeah sure, bring the wife bring the kids, bring the body armor
and the Uzi III as well, cause folks, the gangs rule this turf. Two rival
gangs have staked the Point as their turf in the last few years, and
occasionally, the conflicts get bloody. The Iron Crosses and the Man
Devils are as mean and vicious as gangs go. And when they're not
fighting each other, they're hassling the patrons. And why doesn't
security do something? Cause management doesn't feel more guards
are financially feasible, and the ones they got now are smart enough to
keep their heads down. Oh, and the park makes sure you sign the
insurance waiver before you ever step foot on their property...Family
fun... Heh Heh
-L. Y. D. (19:22:51 /12-11-57)

Sea World/Geauga Lake Amusement Park and Aquatic Research
Center

Sea World is the place to go if you're interested in anything to do with
water, or want to ride a couple of pretty small coasters without all the
lines. Sea World and Geauga Lake were two different parks set on
opposite sides of a small lake, until in 2021, a developer by the name of
Alan Reynolds bought the two parks out and combined them. The Sea
World section has become home to one of the largest Aquatic
Research Departments, and they have the largest collection of aquatic
animals in captivity.

>This place is actually a clean place to go. That may have
something to do with the owners. Do a LOT of digging, and eventually
you run across the name Damien Knight. Of course that makes
security very... Well, besides that, it is a nice park, good place for
small children.

Erm, Bull, it would maybe be a good idea to remove those time/date stamps,
because they're not in any of the current FASA books. Also, could you
replace the - before the names with >?

Sure Gurth, no probs... That's one of the things that still needs edited
out...
I said this was a rough draft...:)

This is something I started last Summer and have worked on off and on
since...:):) But it's far from complete...

Hey,

I've only had time to scan through your text. Overall, I thought you did
a good job.

However, just a suggestion on my part here, but could you put in an
introduction or something to summarize Cleveland. I mean, from reading
your text, I haven't really got a real good feel about the overall
atmosphere there.

And while we're at it, perhaps it would be better if there were less
comments compared to the amount of text. I mean, what you have is good,
but a higher text to comments ratio would be appreciated.

Hope you don't take this as a flame.

Shaman
PS. Sorry that I didn't quote. Since I'm back at Uni, I haven't had the
time to properly answer your mail thingy.

It's still in the works... Tehre's a good deal that needs to be done on it
still...

Am intro is one of the things that needs written yet..:) There's actually
four or five people on this end writing the file... But we're still
waiting for the otehrs to finish their sections... They don't really have
e-mail access, so they aren't on the list...

Actially, most of the text will hopefully be expanded... I don't like only
having a cuple sentences describing things...

And a lot of the qoutes are included to hopefully provide insights into
things, as well possible plot hooks and such.

>Hope you don't take this as a flame.

Not at all... I can take constructive criticism,... That;s what I put the
early draft up here for...:)

Comments are welcomed and encouraged...:)
