Club Scene and Other Interesting Sites

Garfield's Bar and Grill

>Cleveland's premiere magical nightspot. Wizards only, all the
time. Owned by a minor mage known as Baron Von Reicher, the place
has a distinctive theme and tone, apparently based around a card
game from the late 20th century.

>Are you searching for an ancient magical tome? Or do you just
want a book that's 200 years out of print? Then This is where you
should look. Run by a Dwarf named Tim, the shop specializes in First
Printing's of old, out of date, and out of print books. Don't even ask
about a second edition printing, though. It really upsets the old
guy.

History

In the 1980's, a nuclear power plant was built in a small town East of
Cleveland, Perry. Nuclear power plants back then were only good for
about 30 years or so,and in 2014, the Perry Plant was shut down.
Northeastern Ohio, in need of a new power supply, decided to build a
new and much larger plant in Ashtabula, a growing city about 100 miles
East of the City of Cleveland. The Ashtabula Plant would last for close
to one hundred years, and was to power both Cleveland as well as
Erie, PA. to the East.

The plant was finished in early 2026, only 16 months behind schedule.
Rumors circulated about the reliability and safety of the plant, but the
city's governments pushed it through. The plant was operational for
less than two months before disaster struck and the plant had a major
meltdown, flooding the neighborhood with nuclear radiation. Ashtabula
was evacuated, and the Power Plant abandoned.

>I remember the day they evacuated the city. It was the closest I ever came
to losing my life. The gangs were out in force looting, and the cops were
shooting anyone who so much as looked cross eyed. Add in the National Guard
losing half its force to soldiers going AWOL, and it added up for a scary
scene. And rising over the entire night sky was the odd greenish cloud. I
never thought the night would end.
-Geezer (13:27:33 /12-27-57)

The Plant had been built cutting every corner possible, and Rodney
Porell, the construction foreman in charge of the project, was found to
have been stealing the excess money. He used cheap building
materials and skimped on the safety precautions. Two days after the
information was leaked to the public, Porell hung himself.

>Evidence has been unearthed recently that Powell may not have been at
fault. The possibility exists that Powell was simply used as a scapegoat by
CIC. Anyone interested in seeing the whole story about Powell, contact me
for the details.
-Kuster (13:30:33 /12-27-57)

Still in need of a power plant, the Perry site was expanded and re-
energized by the Cleveland Illuminating Corporation. The CIC was the
remnants of several power companies from the late 1900's that had
been bought up by a young businessman named Karl Presutti. Rumor
linked him with the Mafia, but nothing was ever proved.

>Presutti was never linked to the mafia officially, but like John Gotti of
the 1980’s it was common knowledge that the guy was dirty. Presutti, like
most of the Mafioso of Cleveland was actually well thought of by the
community. Street Knowledge holds that Presutti was the main rival of Don
Viccenzi for the control of the Cleveland Mafia.
-Goombah (13:35:11 /12-27-57)

The city of Ashtabula has remained a barren dead zone to this day.
There have been several cleanup attempts made, but each was
scrapped and deemed not worthwhile. The Cleveland Metroplex now
runs as far East as the old City of Geneva, but ends there. Saybrook,
a small community between Ashtabula City and Geneva, is a toxic free
area, but remains a buffer zone and few people want to live that close
to the Toxic area, so it has become a home for squattors and the like.

>The Perry site simply never worked right. From the beginning
there were serious design flaws, that were made ever worse, when it
was discovered that the whole shebang was built on northeastern
Ohio's only active earthquake fault line.
-Spec (05:52:46 /12-09-57)

>Earthquakes? In Ohio?
-Doubtful (06:08:23 /12-09-57)

>It's true. My dad went to high school back in the late 1980's he
told me that a couple of small earthquakes rocked the Perry area then.
Of course the Great Ghost Dance only added to the problem.
-McGeo (12:23:56 /12-09-57)

>If ya think that's bad, you should see the druid wanna be's that
go out to the TZ every couple months. They don't come back.
-Cinz (13:09:45 /12-11-57)

>I'm surprised, then again maybe not, that nobody's mentioned
toxics shamans yet. I got some info I'll post tomorrow when it's
compiled.
-Laughing Cat (17:02:29 /12-11-57)>>

>Cat?
-Cinz (15:06:34 /12-13-57)

>Laughing Cat?
-Cinz (18:23:41 /12-21-57)

>Ashtabula's not as fragged as Bull seems to think. Yeah, there
are tons of toxic waste out there, but to write off the whole area is
overstating the problem. Cleanup efforts have been implemented in the
more heavily polluted areas, and life is slowly finding its way back. The
real corruption here has been of the area's spirit. People living here just
seem to not want to rise any higher than their current poor standard of
living.
-Malcom (22:14:45 /12-22-57)

>This place is a real drekhole these days. Yeah, people live
there, but they're barely human anymore. Even the ghoul community
avoids the area.
-Buddy (18:19:41 /12-23-57)

Points of Interest

With the problems in Chicago the last few years, the sagging Cleveland
economy has been bolstered by many Corporations moving their
midwest operations into the Cleveland Metroplex. Cleveland's long
unused ports along Lake Erie have suddenly seen more use in two
years than they had in the last 50.

Corporate Holdings

Aztechnology

Aztechnology opened up a new branch earlier this year, moving their
operation from Chicago to Cleveland. Despite computer problems
during the opening days, the company seems positive and has put a lot
of faith in this office.

-Plughead (18:xx:10 /12-0as3-v57)

Ares Macrotechnologies

AresSpace has taken over the old NASA-Lewis Research Center, and
Knight Errant has recently set up shop, making Lone Star UN-happy.

>Can you say weapons manufacturing in Cleveland? I knew you
could.
-Mr. R's Neighborhood (15:20/51 /12-10-57)

>Weapon's research? Are you scamming me R-man? Ares isn't
making weapons up their. It's the new Area 51 man, the black box
projects. Ares found an E.T. and is working on it in Cleveland!!! I've
seen them testing it in the night skies!
-Luke Skywatcher (12:32:55 /12-12-57)

>Skywatcher is cracked. Ares didn't find a UFO, they're building
one. Those strange shapes in the sky at night? That's their new
prototype stealth chopper.Mark my words, they'll be unveiling it at this
year's Desert Wars!
-mERC(01:20:11 /12-15-57)

Renraku

Renraku has a small computer marketing division in Cleveland, but
Fuchi has blown them out of the water as far as research goes.
Renraku moved it's midwest operation hereafter the bugs hit Chicago,
but haven't been able to rebuild what they had in Chi-Town.

>AAAWWWWWWW!!!! *snicker*
-Lone Muskateer (15:05:31 /12-11-57)

Fuchi

They've taken the Cleveland Computer market by storm in the last two
years. They moved their company here just months before Chicago
was quarantined and has fared very well. With a large main branch in
downtown as well as another branch in Akron, to the South, they've
edged Renraku completely out of the computer market in the area.
Also, they've done it very, shall we say, "strongly".

>Strongly my ass. Remember that explosion last year on W 44th
that took out two blocks. That was a "hostile" takeover of a Renraku
office building. Killed 32 people and injured over 150.
-Groby (19:26:30 /12-12-57)

>I didn't think Fuchi operated like that normally.
-Question (21:32:44 /12-12-57)

>Normally. Heh-heh.
-Killer Klown (18:44:19 /12-13-57)

>Get real, Ques. All corps play like that. It's in their
contract.
-Who Me? (XX:XX:XX/**-**-**)

Mitsuhama

Mits has two main industries in Cleveland: Steel working and Chemical
research. Mitsuhama is running a close race with Saeder-Krupp over
the steel production. They've made a strong presence in chemical
research, and the rumor mill keeps mentioning a chemical weapons
plant.

>Chemicals. Lovely. Just what good old Lake Erie needs, more
sludge to make it even more brownish-green. Maybe try a new color,
Mitsy.
-Enviro-boy (18:36:19 /12-13-57)

Shiawase

Shiawase is the only Major MegaCorp to not have a presence in
Cleveland.

>Anyone know why that is??
-Sandman (19:01:18 /12-22-57)

Yamatetsu

Biotech labs all over the place. Cleveland is one of Yamatetsu's
newest Biotech experimental areas. Since the mid-west operation has
moved from Chicago, they have switched from production to R&D.

>Be careful what toy's you get from the local street docs.
Yama's been floodin' the local market with experimental prototype's of
Bioware and such. Friend of mine got hit with a taser on our last run,
and his fraggin' head literally exploded. I looked over the remains later,
and it seemed his Cerebral Booster (he got it from someone else) had
overloaded. He'd just got it implanted a couple months before. Freaky
deaky stuff.
-Doc Ness (Me:di:ca:/lN-ee-ds)

Saeder-Krupp

Saeder-Krupp has recently re-established Cleveland's steel mills as a
major industry for the Cleveland area. Factories are doing more
business now than in the last 50 years combined.

>And drekking up the environment even worse. With Lake Erie
the way it is, and Ashtabula glowing at night, you'd think Northern Ohio
would have learned by now.
-Environgeek (16:30:15 /12-10-57)

Cleveland in the Shadows

Organized Crime

With the sudden emergence of several major corporations in the last
two years due to Chicago's disaster, the shadow business has more
than tripled. A city that seldom saw a lot of activity is suddenly finding
many new uses for it's ever growing Shadow population..

Cleveland, unlike most other cities in the CAS and UCAS, has a very
low Yakuza presence, although this has increased quite a bit in the last
couple years as the Chicago clans have moved in. The Mafia is the
major criminal presence.

>The Yaks are moving into Cleveland slowly but surely. Currently
their only presence is a gang by the name of the Silicon Dragons. They
mainly run chips, weapons, and do a little extortion, but they are
constantly growing. See the later post on gangs.
-Oyacinnamonbun (20:06:12 /12-08-57)

>Yeah, but until the mafia stops dabbling in poitics, the Yaks wn't
have a chance. After all, everyone from the mayor to the district
attorney's in the "family".
-Buzzard (10:19:31 /12-11-57)

>I hear that. The maf's own this town. But that's not so bad...
They actually do try to keep the city prosperous. They're almost a
legitimate government now.
-Sid (11:41:59 /12-11-57)

The Cleveland Mafia has it's hands in every pot available, from
weapons and BTL's to gambling and prostitution. Headed up for the
last 27 years by Don Joseph Vicenczi. The Mob is very powerful and
very influential.

>Two useful contacts if you need help with La Familia. Head
down to the warehouse district, hit a club called The Tokyo Shoe. Look
for a troll named Sagat, or a skinny little blond punk named Joey. BE
CAREFUL! Not only are these two in tight with Don Vicenczi, but they
are both physads
-Adeptus (01:35:58 /12-08-57)

Gangs

The night streets of Cleveland aren't’only patrolled by the more
“civilized” elements of organized crime. Plenty of small time operations
also do their dirty deeds in the darkness.
Many of them are small time punks and wannabeez that last a year or so, and
then get stomped out of sight. However there are several gangs in the area
that are making quite an impact on the Cleveland Shadow scene.

The Debs
aka. The Debutantes, Little Debbies, Debby Does

An all girl thriller gang. Their look is seriously retro. The ladies dress
in long floor length skirts with dogs on them, and wear tight sweaters.
Why? Who knows?

>C’mon, sure it’s been over 100 years, but doesn’t anybody remember th=
e
fifties?! Those skirts are Poodle skirts, and be sure to notice that all
those sweaters have an embroidered letter “D” on them. Oh, yeah, you for=
got
to mention the saddle shoes! <grin>
-Carmine (01:35:44 /12-26-57)

The Debs are invloved in crimes ranging from prostitution to collection and
chip dealing. They are surprisingly ruthless for a seemingly frivoulous=
gang.

The current leadership of the Debs is as follows:

The Queen - She might look like just another skinny, freckle faced blonde
biff with horn-rimmed glasses, but this chica is death plain and simple.
The Queen completely rules the Debs. Rumor has it that she controls every
aspect of her gang’s lives, including who they date! SO if you’re planni=
ng
on asking one of these lovelies out, be sure to get permission first, or
you’re likely to need surgery! And whatever you do, don’'t bring one of
these girls home late!

>The Queen’s real name is . . . nope, she knows too much, can’t tell. I =
can
say that she was a corp-brat at one time. She used Mommy’s credstick, and =
a
lot of free time to turn the Debs into the gang they are today. A lot of
that cred was spent on optional implant surgery, making The Queen one of
the Cleveland Sprawls deadliest fighters. I’'ve seen her go toe to toe wit=
h
neighboring gangbanger Spill and just break a sweat! She is fast, agile,
and a vicious little scrapper in a fight.
-NuZu (12:11:11 /12-26-57)

Second in command of the Debs is the mage known as Asp. Recognizable by her
distinctive topknot-style hairdo, the Asp also is deceptively innocuous
looking. She rarely speaks to anyone other than The Queen, and conventional
street wisdom holds that the two are/have been lovers.

Asp is a potent mage, and rumor again holds that she is responsible for
summoning The Queens current lover Widowmaker

Widowmaker is the only “male” member of the Debs. He is a hulking brute
with close cropped black hair. He always wears mirrorshades and a pair of
black jeans, and little else.
Widowmaker is an earth elemental of immense power. He has apparently been
bonded to The Queen, and serves as her personal bodyguard.

THE JADE DRAGONS

A Japanese gang backed by the Yakuza.
These punks are new in town and have been throwing a lot of muscle around.
They handle the dirty biz that no one else does. - BTL, vatwork, wetwork,=
etc.
They have been muscling in on the Trawgpound lately, leading to rumbles
with the Trawgs.

THE TRAWGS
Led by a pair of Trollish street brother, Shark and Spill, this almost
entirely trog gang is actually rather well respected in Cleveland.
They claim the east bank of the Flats as their turf, but are usually more
interested in partying than causing trouble.
Once a year, the Trawgs stage a massive street party that draws heavily on
the Shadowscene.
Several city blocks are cordoned off by the police (The Trawgs are always
polite enough to let the Star know when this event will take place.
The entire area then just opens up for a week long revel, wherein the torgs
go off. Fights are kept to a minimum, and very little private property is
damaged.
In fact, the city usually can simply sweep the streets of debris after the
revel.
