Subject: Fast & furious project (Now read this! Now read this!)

Now that GenCon is over in the US, and everyone is hopefully back to read
lots of emails again, I'm kind of hoping to get this new and simple
NERPS project started.

The following ideas have been brought up:

A Day in the Life
Bloopers and Practical Jokes
Border Security
Contacts: What are they really good for?
Daily concerns
Art & culture
Entertainment
Fashion & lifestyle
News Bites
Environmental Issues
Gear
Pocket secretaries
"Useless" everyday stuff (household electronics, etc.)
Paranormal critters
Shadowrunning Tactics
Something Funny Happened to Me on the Way to the...
Spells
The Rules of the Game (not gaming rules, but the rules of shadowrunning:
"Don't spank your Johnson" etc)

It looks to me like the easiest thing to do is do a catalog-type book, but
one that doesn't focus as much on useful equipment and spells as it does
on things useful in everyday life. These may have shadowrunning
application as wel, or they may be used just to add color to the
character. Taking the pocket secretaries as an example, the Fuchi "Dragon"
may have voice recognition capabilities, while the Apple "Darwin" requires
you to write on it with a pen (included). This is nothing major and won't
have any real game effects, but it does add something extra when you say
"I write down what the Johnson tells us on my pocket secretary" rather
than "I store the Johnson's data in my pocket secretary."

Spells would also be useful for this book, but please try to stay away
from designing yet another combat spell whose only difference with
Fireball is that it uses the elemental effect of Light instead of Fire.
Try to come up with handy or funny spells that characters would have a use
for, or would take because they like them even though they won't really be
all that useful.
The same goes for matrix utilities or cyberdecks -- FASA has covered most
angles, but if you want to you can come up new stuff for the matrix like
this too.

If we can all agree on this idea, I suggest anyone who has something they
want to add to this project write it up and post it on the list. The
working title of the book will be "Stuff," because that's all I can come
up with right now, better suggestions are welcome :) Put "[Stuff]
Submission" in the subject line, followed by the title or a very short
description of what the article is about, and then format the post as
follows: The title on the first line, your name & email address on the
second, then one open line, followed by the actual submission. Don't
forget game stats, if any, and availability/cost/street index data. For
example:

-----
Automated Toilet Brush
Gurth <gurth@******.nl>

The all-new Ares Automated Toilet Brush(tm) takes all the dirty work of
cleaning your toilet away from you! Press the button and everything
will be bright and clean in under a minute!
Availability: 4/12 hrs
Cost: 500 nuyen
Street Index: 3
-----

Add new-style decker comments if you want to, preferably using (>) for the
tags FASA uses in their new books. Others on the list are encouraged to
add decker comments to the articles posted, or comment on the articles
themselves; it is then up to the original author to add those in (if
required) and re-post the submission. I'll incorporate the last submission
of each article in the final book.

Oh yeah, one mor thing: a deadline. My plan is to set the deadline for
this project at 30 September 1997.
