To Net Enhancements for Roleplaying Shadowrun<NERPS@********.itribe.net>

Actually, it isn't totally bullshit, nor is it totally true.
Several of the smaller telecoms and some states are looking
into the possibility of taxing, in some way, Internet usage.
Whether this is by increasing the fees ISPs must pay to
local telecom providers (Which right now, are very low.
This we _can_ expect to change, which _would_ increase
Internet fees for us), making Internet usage
pay-by-the-minute, or some other fee increase it doesn't
matter.

The facts are these. The FCC is not officially looking to
charge Internet usage by-the-minute. There are several US
jurisdictions (several phone companies, several states) that
are looking into the possibility and other revenue raising
possibilities, but those are only, as of this date,
proposals with nothing hard behind them.

I believe the New York Times ran a story about this general
topic several weeks back.

Now. Could we go ahead and move onto more NERPS related
topics? Such as has anyone gotten anything about the
various locals they agreed to write about? What about yours
Gurth?

I get sick and tired of receiving crap e-mail - especially when it's
spammed to a mailing list. Things like the Neiman-Marcus cookie, the Good
Times virus, the Kidney Thieves... If I wanted to subscribe onto an urban
legend newsgroup or mailing list, I'd subscribe to one. This mailing list
(like ShadowRN) isn't about urban legends, nor are they proper forums to
spread "news" like the FCC warning. When you realize that the FCC is an
American agency and that this mailing list is international in nature, read
by people who quite honestly couldn't give a flying fig about what the FCC
says or does and aren't affected by any actions that the FCC takes - you'll
realize that posts like that one are improper for this forum.

The post recently received was an updated version of the "Modem Tax" urban
legend. Inspect the FCC's web site at www.fcc.gov or find out more about
urban legends at www.urbanlegends.com .

End of rant.
