To nerps@********.itribe.net

Here's my take on India. Yes, it got slammed by VITAS and
of course, continual border clashes with Pakistan. But it
survived and, in 2057, is on the verge of emerging into a
major power. Except for one damn thing: the caste system,
which was on it's way out (slowly, unwillingly, but going)
in 1996, has returned with a vengeance and has now been
complicated by metahumans. The caste system has virtually
locked India into place. No going forward, no going back.
Sri Lanka had been reintegrated, but in Summer 2057 the
metahuman rebels (for several years there had been a
low-grade civil war) were given Sri Lanka as a way out for
the Indian government. Everyone gets what they want;
metahumans their own plot of land, and India gets rid of
lots of those lower caste metas. In addition, magic has
become an extremely important part of Indian life. It
should be noted that physical adepts are somewhat "common"
(with their traditions of physical astheticism) and shamans
of some flavor or other are predominant over mages.

Or at least that is what I came up with for my work.

Erm... A *lot* of the military equipment the Japanese use
right now is
self-designed, three generations of MBT included. Okay, they
use M1 steel
helmets, but who doesn't? :)

name.

Like in Israel ;)

So David, would you like to write about India? *grin* Most
of the major
cities would probably have bought the farm, but small,
outlying villages
would likely have survived -- and that's where all the
traditions remain
in use. So India would probably have a caste system (they
have today, but
the government wants it done away with AFAIK).
