We need a logo for NERPS. Something eye-catching that makes the books say
"This is from the NERPS list!" withou having to use so many words. Problem
is, I don't really know what it should look like...

Me neither...but, it would be cool. I'll try some stuff out today with
Paint Shop Pro. I'm thinking kinda slanty blockish gold letters maybe? Not
the standard Shadowrun red and black, because thats beginning to wear on me.
I'll work on it and please, send me any input on what you want on it.

Colors are good, but it should work just as well in b&w -- not everybody
has a color printer (I know I haven't...) and they shouldn't see just a
big black blur on the page where the logo is supposed to be :)

Naturally, it should say "NERPS" and also "Net Enhancements for
Role-Playing Shadowrun" above and/or underneath that. Apart from that, I
don't know -- mess about a bit, put it on a web page, and we can all take
a look.

Even folks with colour capability may prefer to use B&W anyway.

Whatever you don't send a binary to the list is the reminder needed,
some folks don't like it. (though i suspect Gurth and Fro at least
Have read the FAQ!)

Anyway enough of make an excuse to post a message has something
happened to Shadowrn, i am getting Nerps mail but nothing else, ok
100+! a day last week was a bit high but the weekend produced little
and the last message was Sunday. I know its not my end as my quota
does not run out (never mind its in by MB's) and Nerps is working just
fine?

I was thinking about a circuit board background with big iron-cast
letters arranged ile this:

N E
R P

Plus a big _S_hadowrun-like (no breaking of TMs intended) S, on
top of it all, transparent but faintly showing. I would try it
up if I knew of some painter better than PAINTBRUSH.EXE. I seem
to make incredible things by using only that (At least so they
say - check the HP if you want an example of my paintbrush art),
but I need something more flexible. And free. Suggestions?
I will try it up on paintbrush and see how it comes...

Paint Shop Pro. Its shareware, so you could reg it. Or talk to some grey
market fixers about the registered version, just like you buy from a store,
one zip file, very very nice :)

I don't see why... If they want b&w they can always load it into any
reasonable graphic program and turn it into a grey scale image.

Naturally. But have you? :)

I got 9 RN messages on Sunday morning, and nothing after that. I re-subbed
Wednesday morning, and am now getting mail again. Damn thing must have
kicked everyone off again :( :(

Definitely Paint Shop Pro 3.0 or later. Oh, and one of the best things
about its shareware nature is that it says "You areon day 178 of your
30-day trial period" without doing anything nasty to the program :)
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to list the web site where I downloaded it
anywhere in the help file. Try www.jasc.com or something like that,
though.

Failing that, see if you can get CorelDRAW! 6.0 somewhere :)

Nice. Never tried that, just downloaded the full version. No nag screens,
and seems a bit faster to me :)

After a long work, I managed to produce something that is barely
looking like a NERPS logo... It is still a rather crude thingie,
but if you care for a look, and want to give some ideas
(especially about what kind of decoration or colour should the
NERP letters be), you can see it at

http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/2717/rpg.htm

Mind, you the rpg page is under construction, you have not to
lose faith when you go there... Just keep reading. It should be
there some 2-3 hours after this message reaches you. It is
300x300 and 256 colors so it could take a rather long time to
load... It looks rather legible in greyscale too (this for
Gurth).

Ah, and coming to think about it: we are still looking for a
NERPS logo, aren't we? :)

Just a minor point: shouldn't be NERPS? This is an acronym, ok, but it is
heavily referenced in early FASA products, so maybe we should stick with the
installed base :)

Just add an S to the end...

Bye, Paolo

Well, actually, the "S" was supposed to be the the "Shadowrun
S" behind it all. I had thought it was good that an Acronym
wasn't so obvious, but since you brought it up, I corrected it
in MK2.
What does it mean it's heavily referenced? Any chance of my logo
making its appearance on the new "Harlequin vs. Godzilla III"
adventure? :)

> Just add an S to the end...

Done. Even if I had to ruin the symmetry. :( I also was not
entirely contented with the vertical writing, so I
horizontalized it and moved the whole lot upwards. Take a look.
Comments VERY welcome since a) I am rather new to the list and
b) This is still a very-working version.

I also would like to know if anyone has a circuit-board like
background. I cannot find the correct shade of green to paint
it anew, so if anyone got a maybe um color 100x100 .gif (or
whatever) pic of a circuit board, I think I can mask it over the
NE_RPS letters, and change that dull bluish to circuit board...
Another "want": If you have a BIG (400x400 or more) color pic of
an explosion (just the fire and the smoke, not a longshot), I
think it would work much better for the background than that
yello-red paintbrushed crap I used. If I can find them on line,
please tell me the URL (mail me directly, we don't want things
such as "go to
http://devastate.explosives.com/hues_of_fire/KABBOOM.HTML"; going
round when everyone is looking for a way to accuse RPGs of
bringing up violent habits, no? :)

So far, this has been the only criticism... The acronym was not
clear... Anything else?

What size would the logo have to be? This one is only barely
legible when reduced to 100x100, as you can see... Will it need
to be even smaller? If so, I will have to work on a smaller
scale... Then: did we decide it had to be color or greyscale?
And then again: is the Shadowrun-S copyright? Am I going to be
sued if I use that? :) And then again again: can I use GIF or since
it now is patented I am going into a lot of trouble? :)

Just to remember you all, it's in
http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/2717/rpg.htm
If anyone has trouble with www, tell me and I can send him the
most current version (only 100x100, sorry) via mail.

Bye! (starts up PAIN shop 3.0 again)

Hello everyone! :) After my forced week-long leave, I'm back and planning
to get this Underworld thing finished... Too bad the deadline I set was
during the time my hard drive was dead, but that's life...
Let's get on with it, shall we?

For Mark Steedman, I think you mean. I don't have a problem with
full-color logos, really.

Yes. I'd like to use the one we settle on in the Underworld book.

greyscale if i ever get it printed out though i'm not very bothered
if it doesn't come out some folks might be, though they haven't
