Pirate Radio/TV
To nerps@********.itribe.net

I think the gist of the matter is that without major support
from somebody BIG, there can't be a "pirate" station.
Somebody has to fund the major tech and defensive systems.
And if someone BIG (read: top tier corp or gov) is funding
the "pirate" station, it really isn't "pirate" then, is it?

I would suggest a couple of things, take your pick. 1)
Power the pirate down so that they aren't a major force,
just small enough to escape the attention of most. A small
AM transmitter that just barely covers Cleveland (or
wherever). 2) Legitimize it. That TV station in Threats is
legitimate legal station. Of course, they don't cater to
the runner community like you want your radio station to.
3) Make it pseudo-pirate. By that I mean, it has to have
some mysterious benefactor feeding it huge amounts of cred
to pay for the tech and weapons. Who? That could be the
focus of a whole campaign.

Personally I think it'd be easier to make it a TV station instead of a
radio one. Cabble lines are easier and safer to patch into, and being
found out doesn't eat you a missle, just the loss of the patch.

Who is currently dead.... though he may not stay that way.

Other 'service providers' include Shadowland; It could be in their
benefit to run a pirate radio station.

Ok, this is where it's heading, I believe...

I responded to a lot of this same comments on Shadowrn, and made the
mistake of not sending it to NERPS...

<sigh>

Ok, basically, here's the deal as I see it...

Cleveland's City Government is semi-autonomous of the State and UCAS
governments... And is run more or less completely by the Mafia.

Until a few years ago, the Corps had very little influence in Cleveland,
but foloowing the Bug problem in Chicago, the Corps moved in, and this has
caused MAJOR conflicts between the two powers...

The radio station is backed by the Mafia, and in essence the Government,
and is fairly anti-corp... this of course, cheeses the Corps off and
causes major conflict...

The only known employee of the Radio Station is Kid Leo, though no one
knows just what or who he is... he's the main DJ for the station...

I think Tinner and I decided to format Cleveland similar to Denver, with
having a few choices and "mysteries" left up to GM's discretion... Rumours
of who Kid Leo is run with the usual type of rumours... Dragons, Free
Spirits, Immortal Elves... taht sort of thing...:]

Oh well, more on that when i get a chance to ctach up with my mail...
(I've been off line all week, and all my mail's just caught up to me...:(
600 messages is rough...)

yeah, but there's two reason we're using a radio station...

For one, it's based off a large radio station that more or less a Cleveland
Landmark... We're keeping a lot of things in the sourcebook that are
familiar to Clevelanders...:]

And secondly, TV station has been done, and radio is a more "archaic" form
of communication, making it's use more unique... And more memorable...

Besides, a bunch of factory shlubs can't turn on the trid while they work
(at least not often), but can listen to the radio...

As a general reminder to all who are writing stuff for the NAGTTW, the
plan is to do two books -- one for the players, and one for the GM. So if
you want to include a GM's section (like you see in many FASA
sourcebooks), be sure to mark it clearly, and separate it clearly from the
"normal" section, and it will be put into the NAGTTW GM's book.
