Alright, after breaking into the computer lab and fiddling with the macs
a bit, here is an update on what is happening with ShadowLore

-----

Yes, I can make it available in both PostScript and RTF formats, as well
as MS Word format. I will also dump it to ASCII, but I won't do any
formatting, so it won't be too pretty.

According to the disk, we have 435k of RAW ascii submissions. I
anticipate about 600k for the file when finished, perhaps 80 to 100
pages. The PostScript file will be VERY large, because in an effort to
make it as portable as possible, I need to include the fonts. The PS
file will probably be about 1MB or so, perhaps large.

Timeline:

Wer come back to school on the 4th of January. I cannot start until then
due to the fact that the lab is closed (and I'm in here now only cuz I
kiss ass better than anyone). I MUST have it done for grade by March
15th, but I hope to have it done by mid-February.

When it is completed, it will be made available via FTP, and it should
also end up on teetot alongside the NAGEE.

I will also get it to people via email.

Finally, for $1.00 I will mail the files to people on a 3.5" disk in
either MAC or DOS format. Details on that will become available once I
get the thing finished. $1.00 is to cover the cost of the disk and
postage.

Questions? Just ask.

Can't you stick to the canonical 18 fonts most PostScript printers
come with, or a smaller subset of that?

Subject: ShadowLore Update

Here's an update on the editing of ShadowLore

-----

I am currently finishing up a paper for another class. I hope to
complete it this weekend, and then I can settle myself into the lab to
work on ShadowLore. ETA for editing: perhaps five weeks.

How it will be distributed:

It will be released to the net in the following formats
MicroSoft Word for Macintosh
RichText Format
PostScript
ASCII (converted from MSW, but not edited)

I haven't figured out where, yet, but it will be put up for FTP. Most
likely at TEETOT, perhaps elsewhere.

I will be putting a shareware-like statement into it. This says
basically "Hi, thanks for using this. If you find it useful, a voluntary
contribution would make the editor most happy". Probably $5. I doubt
people will pay (this is called reality), but anything I might get would
offset costs involved with printing (we have to pay to print on the campus).

For those that can't FTP, I will sent people a 3.5" disk with the file of
their choice on it for $1 (to cover postage and the price of the disk).

I will also make printed, bound, signed copies available. I don't knwo
the cost (yet). Perhaps $10 or so. It depends on how long they are.

Questions? Just ask. Comments? Welcome as always.

And don't think I'll be making any money on the above, for from it.
That's not really the point either.

Alright! I think I will. But I'm basically confused as to how to do it.
I guess I need to get an Author id? Yes I've read the FAQ and other related
stuff found through nn. Could someone send me a script for a command file
so I can follow the format in the future. I can't figure it out.

What I want.

1) To get an author id
2) a list of the current shadowrun enhancment project done, and in progress
3) get a copy of those I"m interested in so I can review them
4) start 2 or 3 enhancement projects
5) Start a character in Shadowtk

If someone can get be started I'll contribute

respectfully submitted

Details on this is in the FAQ. There are no projects done yet, and the
ones in progress are detailed in the FAQ. You can get the logs for
examples from the current projects.

Huh?

That's a seperate project.

Ok, things are moving along slowly on Shadowlore, but I've managed to
finish the bulk of the projects I had for other classes for the quarter,
so I can now spend much much much more time on ShadowLore.

Timeline:
March 14: Release of Beta Version
April 1: Release of Final Version
?????: Bug Fixes :-)

Note, this did push back the final release date by about two weeks.
School ends the week of the 14th, and I'll have Spring Break and an empty
lab available to do the final bug-fixes prior to release.

Also, I had three people volunteer to be proof-readers, which is fine, but
two of the do not live in the US, and I'd like to be able to send the
beta-release to he proofers and then they snail-mail me back a copy with
correction uggestions. Since international mail will be really really
really slow, I'd like to be able to get one or two more US-based people
who are willing to do proofing. If you are interested, drop me a line.

Also, if anyone has any artwork, I'd love to put it in. There are only a
couple stipulations:
1) Black and White only, colour won't work
2) If sent via email, they must be in PICT format
3) If you have something you drew and you want me to scan it,
let me know and I'll get you my address and you can mail it.
4) Try to keep them no larger than 3"x3".

Qustions? Just ask.

Here's an update on the status of Shadowlore.

We are now four weeks from the release date of the beta version. It
might get out a little earlier (don't bet on it).

I have finished the races and magic sections. I will do the matrix
sections tomorrow, hopefully. I don't have an estimate on the number of
pages, yet, but as of right now it is up to 30 pages, and the latter
sections are very large. Figure it will be maybe 150 to 200 pages.

In the meantime, _please_ submit more stuff!

{Crossposted to ShadowRN}

Ok, all of ShadowLore has been put into one document. It's about 92
pages or so.

I ended up removing the following:
Clubs (they are more appropriate in the current SPRAWLS work)
Weapon and Spell tables (they proved to be a royal bitch to
format AND would have been about 30 pages long. It
seemed kinda senseless to have 1/4 of the book devoted to
tables when we only added perhaps a dozen spells and
weapons.)

Tomorrow I have some lab time and I will go in and add in page numbers
and a few other things. I'll then print out one copy for me to go
through and proof (fixing formatting, spelling, etc). Once I get those
changes in, postscript (and other) versions will go out to the 1/2 dozen
proofers. Those living in the states will print out and mail me a hard
copy with their corrections on it. Once the second batch of corrections
are made, I will export final versions for general release. I will be
contacting Teetot next week to see if we can secure a NERPS subdirectory,
and I will also be contacting our administration here at MSU to see about
making materials available online (although they are security paranoid,
so don't bet on it).

ShadowLore _WILL_ be out by April 1.

Questions? Just ask.

I am now printing out the final draft of ShadowLore. I am going to bring
it home tongiht and give it a really good proofing, and them make any
changes that need to be made tomorrow afternoon.

I am still encountering considerable problems with the RTF format of the
file, and the fact that margins, page breaks, section deliminators, and
fonts are not staying true.

Because of this, I will make the initial release of Shadowlore ONLY in
postscript format. I could hold on to it for a little longer and work
out these technical problems, but I'm sure that all of you are sick and
tired of waiting for me to get this damn thing done.

Tongiht or tomorrow, I will also post an "order form" that you can fill
out and send to me if you want me to send you a bound, signed, "official"
copy.

I'd like to apologize for the delays and frustrations this project has
caused. I hope that the final product meets with your approval and will
become a welcome aide.

I anticipate that if I cannot work out the RTF problems, I may not
release an RTF format, and you will have to import the file as an
encapsulated PostScript file or find some way to print it. Hopefully, it
won't come to that, though.
