Regarding the Siberia post that came in last week (which was excellent
BTW, can't wait to see the finished thing...), I find a tiny
preoccupation with Big guns and Magic, at the expense of cultural, and
folkloreistc information (which I find much more interesting when
playing myself...). So, in order to remedy the situation, even if just
by a little way, I send you all this fine Siberian recipe. It tastes
great. It's something my old grandmother taught me...

Mix 2,5 teacups of flour (wheat) with 3 eggs, 3 eggs of water (i.e. the
amount of water that fits into the empty eggshells...), and half a
teaspoon of salt, into a rather hard dough. Roll it and cut into small
squares, approx. 4-5 cm.

On these squares, put raw minced-meat mixed with fresh ham, chopped
onions (fried in butter berforehand), salt, and peeper.

Fold the squares (with the contents in it) into a triangel, so that they
look like a serviette in miniature (pinch the corners). Put them in
boiling water, with salt and/or broth. When they float to the top, they
are ready to be served, with butter.

Voila, you now have an excellent, traditional, siberian meal...

Way cool :) I have a version of that recipe with metric
measurements. Email me privately if you want a copy.

The Siberia post was meant to be pretty much finished, so don't expect it
to change a whole lot.

As do I. I intend to explore this side of things a bit more when I expand
the post into its own sourcebook after NAGTTW comes out (adding full
sections for each country, and economy section, etc.).

The problem with Siberia is that everything that everything that would give
it traditional folklore and culture has been totally destroyed. In the ASC,
Russian and native culture in the area has been replaced with something
brand new that does not have a long history. Almost all indiginous people
and most Russians have been kicked out of the place, and its current
inhabitants share almost no history with the previous inhabitants or
geography.

Granted this lack of history would provide culture in and of itself. One
thing I did mention in the post is that most early inhabitants rejected
their own culture (Japanese and Russian) and created something new. I did
not really specify what this new culture was though. I can see the point of
having it, but the post is big enough already.

To the original writer (Robert), can I assume you have been to/are
from/have roots in Siberia? If so, maybe we should talk culture privately.

Ok. I just thought the subject was interesting enough to make me want to
read more... maybe just my wishfull thinking :-)

Yes, I remember that... I was thinking more about the special way of
life that comes with living in Siberia. The long winters, the short
summers, etc. Also the daytime/nighttime ratio in northern Siberia can
wreck the minds of stronger people than myself... (there's an official
term for that condition, some sort of hormone depravation, inducing
depression, vitamin-loss and general exhaustion.) We get it alot,
especially people who aren't born up the north. (No, I don't live in
Siberia... :-)

And BTW, will it be printed, and if so when, where?

And sorry for the long postings, for you out there who don't care much
for Siberia; sorry :-)

Hey, it's not only siberian! Actually, it's a traditional
siberian-russian-ukraininan-bielorussian-and-east-polish meal.

Just being nit-picky. ;>

Granted the majority of the Siberian culture has been "removed", but i
was wondering if you were aware of the current Shamanic cult that
operates in Siberia today, using an ancient "square" of standing stones
as a spiritual centre?

There's still a lot of "strangeness" in the area, and not all of the
indigenous population and culture has left - forcibly or otherwise.

Oo! Oo! Let's hear about it! I have not heard about it but it sounds tailor
made for SR.

Also, whenever Siberia is put up on the web site, a lot of this stuff could
be good decker comments.
