Hmmm... OK, here's something for NERPS: Stuff - alternative rules for
that loved/hated piece of cyber - taccomp.

Tactical Computer revised.

A tactical computer is a dedicated system designed to keep track of
all relevant combat data, process it and feed it to the user in a
clear, easily understood form. It filters the data from the user's
senses, so if the subject's senses can't provide the data, the
computer may make an error. Each enhanced sense from the following
list adds +1 to computer's effective RATING: thermographic sight, low
light sight (only in bad conditions), enhanced hearing (not high- or
low-frequency, though), select sound filter. Orientation system adds
+1, +2 if it has access to a detailed map of the area. Thus, the
maximum bonus is +5, +6 with map. Direct connection (through a
datajack, or cyberware BattleTac_ compatible radio) to an active
BattleTac_ net gives another +1. The computer has no problem
interfacing with natural senses, enhanced physical adept senses
included (Direction sense adds only +1, since the physad can't have a
detailed map of the area uploaded)

The computer can track an unlimited number of targets, while providing
fire control and tactical data ("marking") on up to (User's
intelligence + rating) of them. Data about tracked targets can be
edited (like, marking Target #0012? as a friend) and sent to a
BattleTac_ net, or to the user's smartlink, allowing for an (almost)
100% friendly-fire-free operation.

CAUTION: The manufacturer takes no responsibility for any damages
caused inadvertedly due to computer's psooible error.

Acquiring and tracking a target requires two successes on a visual
Perception test, reacquiring a lost target requires one success.
Double the number of required successes if other senses are used (i.e.
hearing). If the target wants to shake the acquisition, he must break
out of computer's line of sight and win an opposed test of Stealth
against Perception.

The fire control and ballistic expert system feature provides a
Tactical Pool, equal to the computer's Rating, that functions as
additional Combat Pool dice usable only against marked targets. The
dice can be used both offensively and defensively, but the combined
number of Tactical Pool and Combat Pool dice is still limited by the
user's skill. Also, the computer raises the amount of Combat Pool dice
that can be spent on a marked target by it's level (that is, level 2
tactical computer allows spending 6 dice by somebody with a skill of
4).

Most system functions are background tasks that require minimal or no
concentration to perform (that is, acquiring and re-acquiring targets
as well as editing data about tracked targets requires a free action,
while rest of the tasks requires no actions to perform.)

The imbedded tactical expert and data processing system enhances
tactics skill by it's RATING, and does not override the natural skill
like skillwire systems. In case somebody has no tactical skill, the
computer's expert system can provide tactical data to him, though that
gives him only LEVEL dice in skill.

The computer's spatial and situational awareness programs allow for
quicker reaction, and character with a tactical computer adds it's
LEVEL to his REACTION.

Tactical computer bonuses do work when rigging, but the effective
level of the computer is limited by the VCR level. Deckers have no use
for this toy, unless they're homicidal gun-toting maniacs that also
happen to deck. Not that it's unheard of.

Level 3 2 1,100,000¥ I 2-CC CLASSIFIED
Level 4 2,5 1,600,000¥ I 2-CC CLASSIFIED

(>) This gives you edge in spades. But try finding one on the market.
They're also illegal for civilians to possess in just about all the
states in the UCAS and all the territories in North America. Just a
minor technicality.

Why not high- and low- frequency? I understand wanting to limit the bonus,
but low-frequency could help you here/feel vibrations which might key you into
large people or vehicles which could be threats. High-frequency would allow you
to hear such sounds as the high-pitched whine of a Vindicator Minigun as it spins
up to speed. :-)

I like this better than extra dice all the time (like it says in ShadowTech).

I think that's a good idea. You should be quicker to react when you have more
data on which to base your actions.

Well, I did want to limit the bonus, but I've decided that 90% of
aural data one might use is in the normal human range. Like
Vindicator. You don't need a high-freq cyberear to hear THAT. ;>
