your mail comes out ok but some folks seem to send out mail that does
not have line feeds in it. i suspect Unix and very wide screens. This
poses problems in that having to scan across the screen for each line
is a real pain, and my mailer at least gives up at about 200
characters wide, i have seen Shadowrn messages get lines cut off by
this!
it could be worth a reminder on this generally, though i understand
the sentiments on hard returns, this message only has them at the end
of paragraphs but the mailer line feed sit to about 70- 72 characters
wide.

but only if i type on a line, below is result of insert one space
then delete it in quoted text, as you can see Gurths post wrapped at
my mailers width while the stuff above that was simply quoted is left
alone.

Personally, I suspect Macintoshes or Windows boxes and
porportional fonts (especially with non-standard mailers like Microsoft
Mail, Lotus Notes, or AOL). Most Unix-based mailers wrap things
correctly, or not at all.

...I've been reading this list for a few months now over here on AOL, and
I've been reading things fine...

...Now.. as a test.. the above line did not have a hard return in it.. but
AOL did automatically wrap it... See how it ends up for everyone...

...and yes... Sorry for just slinking around these past few months.. Real
life has been hectic... I'll try not to let it interfere anymore... :-)

...and by the by... If anyone want's to bounce any ideas off me on any of the
stuff that they are currently working on... Be it for an opinion.. or to fill
in any gaps... I'll be more then willing to do that... I just don't have the
time right now to come up with anything "from scratch" per se...

Just post it on the list so everyone can comment on it.

I use a Windows mailer (PC Eudora -- hopefully not much longer, BTW) and a
proportional font (system.ttf), and have put the message width at 80
characters. It automatically wraps the words when I read the end of the
message window, but that is more than 80 chars. Still when it gets sent out
it's all nicely 80 characters wide I think.
