That sea-colony babble
To Net Enhancements for Roleplaying Shadowrun<NERPS@********.itribe.net>

Whoa dude. Tim, take a second to organize your thoughts!
Your last message was a little difficult to read.

But you have some good ideas. However, that is a lot of
work and a lot of material. My suggestion is as follows:
go with it and see how large it gets. If it gets to big,
then the best thing might be to spin it off as it's own
book. But don't think about that yet. Just see what
happens to it as it develops. BTW, I can send you my
conversions of that Cyberpunk unofficial "Wavebook." I axed
a some things, changed all the names then converted them
into SR. That should make your part of the project a little
easier.

Also, let's try not to get too goofy with the toys. A
dolphin-shaped one-man sub? That seems to go at light
speed? Packed with more gear than a whole modern sub?
Sorry, don't think so. Stay as realistic as possible.
Please. No SeaQuest DSV-type crap. And stay away from
other sea-movies for the time being.

Other than that, it seems like you've got the ideas and
energy to get this part of the project off the ground. Go
to it!

Okay, under water bits, This is from a quick look through my
own shadowrun
colllection,
Cal Free Pg. 78 Kalamri Inc owns a rather large Aquasphere
of the big sur,
supporting up to 15000 people ( Mostly corpers so lots of
extractio...interesting (tim notes down adventure idea) any
way
Aqua Arcna also owns a semi aqua sphere of the big
sur, ofiicially (heh!)
containing 35 people.
Pg 32 of Dunky's he leaves 5 mil for the first group to
build a self contained
colony with more than 100 people.

Right now my own stuff: (tying in with the aussie stuff)
there definatley
should be a research center off the GB reef, Japan would
probably have fishing
factroies (if they haven't F*ked the water up) and
geothermal (pacific rim of
fire) power. China (heh!) russia might go for that cold war
type seceret
submarine bases, (bond theme comes up dah dah dah de dah
dah!), Mining
colonies (can yo say ABYSS!) should be quite common, and as
said before
Research colonies,. There also should be a loada vehicles
included, (do you
remember the seaquest where the bratty kid designs a dolphin
shaped 1 man sub?
I want one, actually all sorts of equipment should be
included, If you want I
go through All my (nerps) stuff and get of the
Bio/cyberware, weapons (bet you
get the fools with tazers......(tazer grenades?)), and gear.
Magic is pretty
well covered but a few more spells can't hurt. incidently,
in the abyss they
had that deep sea diving suit with the liquid in, that is
now possible, in
shadowrun the stats are in shadow tech pg 93 but they say
it's a blood
substitute (it is possible now just not widley publised).
errr god i am
babbling. Contacts archetypes and critters would all be
good, Basically a
whole new setting with all the fancey bits. ( i have already
started on the
contacts and bio/cyberware, Is it okay if clavin give
technical backup on the
Bio/cyberware)

Tim Coxon. The babbling one.

I'd like to see it too. (Since I'd like to think I was responsible for the
addition. Course I could be wrong.) :)

If any Seaquest stuff is used for ideas it would be pre-DSV, before it got
weird. I kinda like the idea of cyber to allow minimal communication with
marine mammals. As for using Ocean movies for input, I would suggest using
ones, like leviathan and Abyss, without the aliens and monsters. The
submersibles and stations are good jumping off points.

I'll be honest, I don't want to see it get out of hand. My original idea was
just a general overview of the oceans: Sub types, stations, corp
involvement, surface vessels, water cyber; ie gills, mammal comm gear, water
drones, rigging gear for ocean vessels, etc., more ocean critters, maybe even
sentient underwater life (maybe thats were the T'Skrang went) :). You get
the idea. Bottom line I'd like to keep it from getting crazy but still touch
on enough to give everyone an idea of what could be out there. If it does
become a book of its own we can go into deeper detail, so pump out the ideas
and we can decide, as a group, whether or not to include it in NAGTW or make
a NERPS undersea book, but that's later. Though with all the discussion
thats been going on I'm thinking it will be leaning to it's own book, but
thats just my own ideal world talking. :)

Should i get my carp net? :)

A good book for an idea in this case would have to be Willian Gibson's
Burning Chrome... The collection of short stories.

Or, if for some reason you haven't read the book (Shame on you!), the
recent movie Johnny Mnemonic is the conversion of the short story.

As an aside; They ruined that movie when they made Molly (or whatver she
was called) a love interest... Not that she was a bad looking actress
at all (*drool*)

Nah... get the 44-gallon drum of Plastique and a really fast boat; We're
going hunting Megalodons!!!

BTW... How would the underwater facilities deal with something like that
turning up at the front door, looking for a snack..... just something to
consider. (The bastards regenerate, after all)

If you have to ask then it's probably classified.
Which means that I have to follow protocol.
But if you ask nicely I might forget that you asked.
Then again maybe not.

Not in the book, it wasn't.... and that's the one that I like best.
Molly (AKA a whole bunch of stuff) was one of gibson's only recurring
characters.

One Tough bitch, indeed..... The ideal female sammie; Cold, powerful, and
sexy as hell. The epitomy of dangerous beauty, like the black widow spider.

God, i could wax eloquent for hours.

AFAIK the movie character was called Jane and was a /replacement/ for
Molly - which disappointed me the most about the movie. That, and the
lack of the Killing Floor.
