Hi all... A while back I created an Adept with Spider-Man like powers, and
created "web shooters" to go along with the theme, and since we're doing
this new "mini project", I figured I'd post them here for all to see and
critique...

What do you think, sirs? :]

** WEB SHOOTERS

The Web Shooters are a pair of wrist mounted devices that can fire a stream
of liquid that hardens almost instantly (about three seconds after contact
with air) into a very tough (strength 8) and incredibly sticky "webbing".
This can be used for tying up or capturing people, as well as for "web
swinging", a method of travel that involves firing webbing from building to
building and swinging on it as if on a rope. They fire at ranges
equivelant to a heavy pistol.

The web shooters have 5 small canisters on each wrist, all linked to the
firing mechanism. Each canister contains enough of the "web" compound
to fire 100 meters of webbing, thus between both wrist units, a full charge
will allow the wearer to fire up to 1000 meters of webbing.

Web Shooters are fairly rare and hard to find, thus they have a fairly high
cost.

Cost: 2000 Nuyen per shooter, 100 Nuyen per canister of webbing. Street
Index is 3.

Sorry Dude,

But your Web Shooters will infringe on certain copyrights if we publish
it. At least I'm speaking for myself. I wonder what the others think.

I published them in TSS-01, had no legal troubles from anyone else over the
use of the word 'spidey' or 'spiderman'.
If you're speaking of legal trouble *from* me, Bull has full permission to
re-publish almost anything that he has allowed me to include in TSS.

In which way would they infringe copyright? Using the name "Spider-Man"
probably would be (like Bull did in on of the shadow posts), but I'm not
sure about the web shooters -- however, I'm not a lawyer and also not a
copyright-paranoid American so it looks to me like it's safe, as long as
"Spider-Man" gets replaced by, oh, "Spidey" perhaps? Unless Marvel
also
owns the rights to that name... (I wouldn't be surprised if they did :( )

I don;t think we'll have too many problems...

First of all, we're not making any money off of this (at least, I'm not!
And if you all are, ehere's mine?? :))

Plus, the name Spier-Man, while trademarked, is a VERY old and well known
name. It's like using Gandalf or Superman. Now if we were trying to make
a movie, or write a novel, or produce a comic about Spider-Man, we'd have
problems, to be sure.

Also, as far as I know, Marvel does not have the samehang ups about net
stuff that TSR did (I say did cause they have been seriously working on
revising their net copyright policy, according to one of their reps on the
Forgotten Realms Mailing List).

I wouldn;t worry about it, but will revise it if it becomes necessary or if
the list feels it;s necessary... But this has been up as part of the
Spider-Man character archetype on my web page for 6 months now with no
problems, so...

I really wouldn't worry too much about it. I mean, we're talking about
Marvel Comics, not TSR or Todd McFarlane. Marvel, IIRC, isn't all that anal
about a copyright that they've had for some 50 years if it gets used in an
unofficial net.book(most companies still don't recognize the net as an
effective place to fight over copyright; I think they're right). TSR and
McFarlane, on the other hand, would come down hard on anything remotely
similar to they're copyrights. In other words, Bull won't have to worry
unless the next Optional Metatype is a hellspawn. =)

EEEK! Hellspawn! We are in trouble now! (Or worse yet, a Gifted One as an
optional metatype). Don't worry, I was once flamed for trying to add Drow as
optional metatypes. Oh, I guess you were one of the ones that didn't see my
apology before you wrote this, right?
