--------
Mr. Finaish is a fixer working as the Head of Academic Purchasing
at SSECCa Technical Academy (for more info see sprawl of same). He
specializes in the supplying of personnel for all your shadow needs.

Mr. Finaish can readily get most any equipment, bioware, cyberware
(including alpha grade) that a student who is contracted under him
needs or desires. Mr. Finaish supplies personnel through manipulation
of students within the SSECCa to become shadowpersons. Mr. Finaish is
also the head of the colleges paintball war club. The clubs teams
personnel are chosen after auditions and almost always exclude non-contract
persons. The 5 to 8 five person teams compete against one another in
various environments including: barrens, urban, and woodland. With most
time spent on urban combat. Mr. Finaish is generally willing to supply
"graduates" with equipment as any other fixer would but rarely supplies
"non-graduates".

--------
Mr Johnson a vice president of public relations for Knight Errant
(or LoneStar if the players need a legal out); contacts the runners to
locate and retrieve his son. Mr Johnson explains that his son had decided
to go to SSECCa Technical Academy and after some discussion Mr. Johnson
had agreed to the school. His son was doing extremely well there and had
an ideal GPA despite his wide ranged involvement in athletics, vehiclular
technologies and computers during his first semester. During his second
semester he started not being at his dorm, withdrawn from society despite
his continued school involvement. Things got worse over the next to
years when he graduated I didn't even find out untill a month later.
Recently I was running some things on the computer ran a trace on my son's
SIN and got a message that no such SIN exists.

MJ- " I WANT MY SON BACK!! I don't care what you do or who you kill.
Just bring him back!"

GM Notes: Mr. Johnson's son is still working through the SSECCa Technical
Academy & Mr. Finaish. Remmember that Mr. Finaish Can call on
25 - 40 students to repell the runners. These students are mostly
half trained partially cybered individuals.

ShadowLore is done, but there are some problems with distribution to the
FTP site. In addition, the PostScript image I send has a tiny, but major
error in it, so I'm going to get into the lasb in a couple of hours, fix
the error, press a new image, and hopefully it will be up to teetot this
afternoon.

You may be able to find it on teetot.acusd.edu:/pub/incoming later on
today, until it is eventually moved.

I apologize for the hassles.

A formal announcement will be sent out as soon as it is moved out of
incoming into it's proper directory.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PART 1: INTRODUCTION
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

A. What is NERPS?
NERPS (Net Enhancements for Role Playing ShadowRun) is a mailing
list that serves as a committee base for a group of individuals
spending time organizing and writing up a series of net.shadowrun
manuals. These manuals contain everything from new races and
spells to new technology and alternate magic systems.

The specific project the list is currently working on is detailed
in Part II of the FAQ, and changes periodically.

**********
B. How do I subscribe to NERPS?
To subscribe, you must send a control message to the listserv at
HEARN.bitnet. To do this, send email with the following parameters:

TO: listserv@*****.bitnet
SUB: <leave blank>
1st line: subscribe nerps your-real-name

In a little while you should get email instructing you how to
confirm your subscription request. Simply follow the instructions
and you will soon start getting regular postings.

If you have difficulty with bitnet addresses, you can also use the
internet address, which is LISTSERV@*****.nic.SURFnet.nl

**********
C. How do I post to NERPS?
To post to NERPS, you send your posting via email to
NERPS@*****.BITNET (or NERPS@*****.nic.SURFnet.nl for
internet).

**********
D. How do I unsubscribe to NERPS?
To unsubscribe, you must send a control message to the listserv at
HEARN.bitnet. To do this, send email with the following
parameters:

TO: listserv@*****.bitnet (or LISTSERV@*****.nic.SURFnet.nl)
SUB: <leave blank>
1st line: signoff nerps

In a little while you should get email confirming your unsubscription
request.

**********
E. How do I reconfirm my subscription
From time to time while you are subscribed to the lists, you will
get a message from the LISTSERV that requests that you reconfirm
that you still want to be on the list.

If you wish to stay on the list, you need to follow the instructions
in your confirmation request.

If, for whatever reason, you no longer wish to be on the list, you
can simply wait for two weeks and your subscription will timeout
and you will be removed from the list.

**********
F. Other Important LISTSERV Commands.
There are many commands you can give to the listserv in order to change
how your subscription works.

SET listname REPRO (default):
This command will have the listserv include you in the
distribution of any posting you make (ie, you get your own
things back, too).

SET listname ACK:
This is simply an confirmation of the posting you just made.
It is returned to you in email.

SET listname NOMAIL:
If you are going on vacation or something, sending a NOMAIL
command will halt your receiving any postings. This is
helpful if you know that your quota will be exceeded during
Christmas break, for example.

WARNING: If you forget to do this and your quota is exceeded,
this will cause all of the postings to be bounced back to the
list, possibly leading to a loop. The only way to quickly
alleviate this problem is to delete your subscription, so
PLEASE use the NOMAIL command if you are going to be gone
for a while.

SET listname DIGEST:
When this option is set, instead of all of the postings
being delivered separately, they will be delivered in
one mailing at the close of the day (in HEARN's timezone).
This is helpful if the number of mailings become a burden.

SET listname MAIL (default):
This option is invoked to restore active status after sending
a NOMAIL request, and is also used to change from DIGEST
back to getting all postings separately.

HELP:
Sending this command will give you a listing and brief
descriptions of all available commands.

**********
G. Why am I getting deleted from the list for no reason?
99% of the time, the reason you are deleted from the list (by the
listowner) is because for some reason mail is bouncing off of your
account.

Usually this is caused by one of two reasons. Either A) your
account is filled and can't hold any more or B) for some reason your
account is not available (either the machine or your account is down).
When this happens, it causes an error message to be sent back to the
list. The list software attempts to detect error messages and route
them to the listowner. Sometimes, though, the error is not detected by
the listserv software and the error gets reported to the list. This
causes the error message to get sent our to all subscribers, including
the person who is bouncing mail. This leads to a loop that really
messes things up.

Thus, standard procedure when an error message is reported it to delete
the subscription of the person causing the error.

Once the problem has been fixed (you are back on the net or have room),
you are, of course, free to join the list again.

*********
H. Why does the list reject postings from my account?
As part of some security features installed, the list will only
accept mailings that come from the same address your subscription
is registered on. This is to prevent non-list people from
flooding the mailboxes of dozens of people.

Because of this, if you attempt to post from another account or
machine, your message will be rejected. Please read the error
message enclosed with your rejection and determine what you must
do to fix it in the future.

*********
I. HELP! Mail from the list has stopped coming, but I'm still subscribed!
Mail has an annoying characteristic in that, while most of the time
it is instantaneous, there are times when it can take up to two
weeks to go from one computer to another that is located ten feet
away (much like snail mail, eh?).

If mail suddenly suddenly stops coming, wait at least 48 hours before
you contact the listowner. Very likely a link is down between you and
the list, and as soon as that link comes back up, you will get
all of the old mailings.

Also note that the listowner won't be able to help at all in terms
of mail not arriving. All he can do is to verify that you are
indeed subscribed, anything beyond that is under the control of
someone else.

2. THE CURRENT NERPS PROJECT(s)
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

NERPS projects are ever-changing and seldom last for more than a few
months before being completed. A full discription of the current
project(s) is included below. Only submissions for the following projects
will be accepted. (Don't forget to read Part 3 for full details on how to
submit materials.)

NOTE: These titles are only working titles and will in all probability be
changed for final production.

********
A) NERPS: Atlas

A collection of different cities from around the world. Writeups should
probably be on par with the Pueblo article from NAGEE:4 or Las Vegas from
NAGEE:5. See also the Neo-Anarchists Guide to North America for offical
FASA examples.

Writeups should include descriptions of the various suburbs, major
industries, gangs (and where they can be found), colleges, major corporate
holdings, etc. The more detail the better.

NOTE: The public phone book of your respective cities (at least in the
US) contains a wealth of information about population, industries,
economies and the like. You will have to extrapolate a little for
2055 and the ShadowRun universe, but it is a great jumping-off
point.

********
B. NERPS: Power Players

This project will be to write up various powerful oganizations in the
world. This includes not only corporations, but religious organizations
(catholic political structure, jewish political structure), terrorist
organizations (IRC, PLO, BATF^H^H^H^H), political groups (Greenpeace,
NAACP, NGLTF) and other groups. Basically, any group or organization what
can get people to think, and has something to say.

NOTE: These organizations and corporations SHOULD NOT have appeared in
any detail in any FASA publication. Now writeups on Renraku, for
example.

For organizations, they should be things that aren't the established
government and should be a group that gets its name in the paper fairly
regularily. The above were just 1994 examples. 2055 will have new groups
and causes.

For an example, it is recommended that you read FASA's _Corporate
ShadowFiles_, which has writeups and ideas on different corporations. The
format for quantifying power is very useful and it is recommended that you
use something similiar.

********
C. Deadlines
Officially, the final deadline for registering your submissions
will be July 1, 1994. The final date that submissions will be
accepted is July 15th, 1994

******************************************************************************
3. HOW TO SUBMIT MATERIALS TO NERPS
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

There are specific submission and formatting guidelines for all materials
that MUST be adhered to or you risk the chance of your creation being
rejected. While putting up with these guidelines may seem like a
hinderance and a genuine pain in the ass, there are reasons for this. In
other words, READ WHAT FOLLOWS AND USE IT! :-)

********
A. Registering a Submission and receiving an Author-ID#
Every person that submits materials must be issued an Author-ID
number. The purpose of this number is to make sorting and
cross-referencing easier, as well and providing a easy Index
reference for the final product.

To get an Author-ID#, you are required to register at least one
submission. This registration is simply letting the list know
what it is you are planning to submit later on. It also serves as
a sort of promise of what it is you are going to do. NO IDs WILL
BE ISSUED WITHOUT THE PROMISE OF A SUBMISSION.

To register your future submission, you need to send an email
message to Robert Hayden <hayden@*******.mankato.msus.edu> with
the following format:

REGISTRATION
Project Name [Atlas or Power Players]
Title of Submission
Your Real Name
Your eMail address (you may also substitute your ID# if it has been issued)
--------
Up to six lines describing what it is you will be submitting

At this point, you will be issued an ID# (if you do not yet have
one). Your registration will periodically be posted to the list
as a reminder and you are expected to submit that material prior
to the closing deadline.

********
B. Formatting Guidelines
As might be expected, there are formatting requirements that must
be met prior to submission. This is to save later re-editing when
the document is assembled. Failure to use the required
formatting can result in the summary rejection of your submission.

Each submission will begin with the type of submission it is
alone on a line. Only two words are acceptable here: ATLAS,
or POWER. ie, if you are submitting a corp writeup writeup, your
first line should read POWER.

The second line is the title of your submission. For an ATLAS,
this could be the name of the town or city, for a POWER, this will
be the name of the organization or corporation.

The third line will contain your three-digit Author-ID#.

NOTE: For postings with more than one author, each listing of
the ID# should go on its own line.

Finally, the fourth line will contain eight (8) dashes.

Everything after the line containing the eight dashes will be
considered the submission (although .signature files and
irrelevant material will be removed). The only exception to this
is a revokation certificate.

----- >BEGIN EXAMPLE<

ATLAS
Chicago, IL
H-01
X-##
X-##
--------
...etc....
...etc....
...etc....

----- >END EXAMPLE<

********
C. Submission Guidelines
Assuming you have the formatting correct, you then need to submit
your item. To do this, you need to post it to the discussion list
for everyone to look at (see Part I:1:C). Once posted, your
submission will enter a phase where everyone can comment on it.
If you wish to make changes, you can repost an updated version to
the discussion list.

Unless the submission is revoked (see part D and E of this section),
the MOST RECENT incarnation of that submission will be ultimately
entered into the final document.

Only items posted to the discussion list will be valid for entry
into the final project.

IMPORTANT NOTE::
Each submission must be sent in by itself or the software
that handles categorizing will not be able to handle it.
This means if you have three things to send in, you must make
three seperate mailings.

********
D. Issuing a Revokation
If, during the discussion period, a particular entry is
determined to be, for some reason or other, not proper for final
inclusion, the original author can issue a revokation.

To issue a revokation, submit an entry TO THE LIST with the same
formatting as if you were submitting an item (type, title, and
author-ID#), but where the text would normally appear (after the
eight dashes line), replace that with the word REVOKE. At that
point, the item will no longer appear in the final document.

----- >BEGIN EXAMPLE:

ATLAS
Chicago, IL
H-01
--------
REVOKE

------ >END EXAMPLE:

********
E. Revoking Someone Else's Submission
It is possible to revoke another author's submission. This is no
simple task, though, and should be reserved only for submissions
that are truly bad or munchkinous.

To revoke another's submission, you must get no less that five
(5) others to support your revokation (making the total at least
six). To issue a revokation in this style, use the following
example:

----- >BEGIN EXAMPLE<

ATLAS
Chicago, IL
H-01 <--- This is the Author-ID# of the original author
--------
REVOKE
name1 email1
name2 email2
name3 email3
name4 email4
name5 email5
name6 email6

----- >END EXAMPLE<

Name# and Email# are the names and addresses of the MINIMUM six
people who support that revokation. More than six people can,
of course, support it.

NOTE: The individuals listed in this revokation certificate may
be verified with, so beware of fradulent revokations.

Once the six persons have been verified as supporting that
revokation, the item will be removed. Also note that the
revokation MUST be posted to the list to be considered valid
(everything is part of the public record here).

4. HOW TO GET PAST LOGS
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

A. Using the LISTSERV 'GET' command.
Logs of activity on NERPS will be kept online and be available via
the listserv at HEARN. In order to get a directory listing of the
NERPS related files, send the command INDEX NERPS to
LISTSERV@*****.BITNET. You should get a response in a little while
that lists all of the files available.

The log files will be named 'NERPS LOGyymm{A-E}', where 'yy' is the
year of the file, 'mm' is the month and the final letter indicates the
week, with the first week being 'A', and the start of the 5th week
being 'E'.

To get one of them, send the command GET filename, where filename is
the name of the file you wish to receive (example: GET NERPS
LOG9303D). After a bit, you should receive that file in the mail.

**********
B. Getting past logs via FTP.
NERPS logs are also available via FTP at:
site: hearn.nic.surfnet.nl
directory: /archive

The archives for the NERPS list are named 'NERPS.LOGyymm{A-E}'
using the same naming format used when ordering the files via mail
as desribed in part A.

Eric Trager and I discussed this earlier, so hopefully he
won't mind my jumping the gun with this proposal.
We looked through Paul Hume's FDC write-up in the
Neo-Anarchists' Guide to North America, and found that though it
was extensive and a lot of fun to read, the description of
Montgomery County, Maryland (the area we know best) sounds almost
exactly like Mont. Co. was when the book was published. Things
have changed some in the intervening years, and I have a pretty
good idea what direction everything's headed for, up to about
2010. After that, everything will be pure speculation.
What we'd like to try to do is not replace the existing FASA
description, but to update and add to the portions we know.

If in our writeups a city is home to a corporation do we include the

Now that I take a look at it, it'll be interesting to hear about
the Shadowrun version of a city that's not large enough to be called a

larger city.
This could really be a great project if everybody can find the

Duluth is unlike any city I've ever seen. It's at least 180 miles from
any city of substantial size (Minneapolis/St. Paul), so it has to
essentially support ALL of the needs of the citizens, plust the needs of
all the cities of north-east Minnesota. This leads to a very large
cultural and educational base (three large colleges [U of Minnesota Duluth,
U of Wisconson. Superior, and a religious private school called St.
Scholastica], a huge tech school [Duluth Technical College], and other
lesser institutions).

The fact it is also a seaport leads to a huge amount of shipping traffic
(mostly grain, coal, and iron-ore). To the north fo Duluth is the Iron
Range, which has (right now) about to dozen strip-mining operations that
is pulling iron out of the ground. There is also a beginning of drilling
for oil, gold, silver, and uranium. Plus timber. This leads to Duluth
being a huge rail-centre as well.

Tourism is also another major industry. With six months of snow (about
14 feet a year, average), you get the winter crowd. When summer comes,
the temperature is in the mid to high seventies, and you get fishing and
hiking and other nature stuff. Plus, Lake Superior is the largest
fresh-water lake in the world, and is relatively clean as far as polution
goes.

All in all, it's just a great city. Pick up a map and you'll see what I
mean.

Yea. I want to get at least 12 cities. If they were all on par with the
Las Vegas or Pueblo writeup, that will be some GREAT material.

REGISTRATION
ATLAS
Tulsa, Ok
G-01
--------
Tulsa, Ok of the 21st century has become the capital of UCAS Oklahoma.
Unlike the capital of the original Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, Tulsa
voted overwhelmingly to stay with UCAS during its split in 2036.
Grounded in its early 20th century history as "Oil Capitol of the
World" (A moniker given it by the US government largely as a
propaganda move against foreign oil interests), Tulsa has become one
of UCAS' foremost producers and research centers in fuel technology,
ranging from the classic fossil fuels to the "earth-friendly" fuel
sources such as geothermal and solar energy, and even into the field
of nuclear energy. Towards this end Tulsa maintains the University of
Oklahoma, UCAS, (formerly the University of Tulsa) unequalled in most
of North America in fuel research. Tulsa is also the home to some of
the southern UCAS' most religiously fundamentalist policlubs, and a
strong Native American influence as well. Writeup includes outlying
suburbs and some more rural sections of Northeastern Oklahoma.

Has ANYONE gotten ShadowLore to work?

All I know is that I output it to a postscript, I can print it ont he
postscript printer, and I can bring it up in GhostView (the type is too
small to read though).

I hoped it would be universal.

*sigh*

I can give a hearty YES to this!! (I only have seen part of it though... I
just aborted my modem download to check it)

Some comments to the people having trouble viewing/printing this:
Make sure you've done a binary download of this. It is a binary file, not
an ASCII one. Alternatively, if teetot is set up for it, (I haven't tried),
asking for the file, without the .zip extension, may send you an
uncompressed copy.
If you get a couple of pages printed, but not all of it, you may be
overflowing your printer queue. How you get round this is problematic but
here's a couple of ways:
Print a page at a time, using something to select the pages. (Ghostview
has this ability, so ghostscript has as well)
(Unix system only): If you can get access to the machine the printer is
mounted on, you can send a link to the file down the queue, using the
command lpr -P<printer name> -s <file name>. This is how I plan to print it
as soon as the student laser comes online again. (It's down due to network
reasons. :( )

I can view it just fine in Ghostview, aside from the normal padding that
ghostview sticks in the dialog box. As for printing the only thing I've
gotten out was the front page, but thats due to other problems at this point.

As I've discussed with you before ;). I am working on that situation
though. I ought to be able to tell you soon.
