That'd be a major rebuild of the skull, if you ask me. Dolphins send out
sound pulses with some organ in their foreheads, and receive them with
their lower jaws. Incorporating this into a (meta)human body would require
extensive modifications, IMO, and the user would have to learn to
interpret the signals received by the system, as basically you are giving
him/her a completely new sense...

To compare this to the ultrasound sight from the SSC, what I imagine that
does is send out pings and measure the return, and from that it builds a
computer-generated image showing the distances to the various objects in
front of the device. This creates a picture that should resemble the
shapes of the objects to a recognizable degree, allowing the user to move
through it as if (s)he were seeing it.

More or less the same comment as above, I think. The character would get a
new sense that requires extensive learning to use.
