OK, I really hate to be a booger about this, but is there a reason everyone
keeps spelling Tir na nOg as Tir nan Og? Is this some Irish dialect I'm
simply not aware of?

Again, I'm sorry, but it grates on me the same way it does when someone
substitutes an auxilliary "e" for an umlaut (i.e. Goethe), even though I know
that that particular form is accepted and correct. If I'm simply displaying
my ignorance, please correct me, but I'm fairly confident that Tir na nOg
(with the little accent guy over the O) is correct...

God, you guys are forgiving... Whatever happened to the live hard,> die fast world

This is getting a little soft...
(See my previous rant about how R&D should be slagged to hell

If you're doing it for my sake: don't. I like the characters, but I
like the game _MUCH_ more. Keeping the game realistic and fun is the
most important thing here. If R&D get tossed out of the Seattle
shadows, so be it. They took a gamble and lost. Lost hard. They
violated the integrity of this board (I'm surprised nobody's called
for the sysop to kick them off), and the trust of every runner in
town...

But I've already said this...

Heh: Also, I'm hoping that R&D are going to have an opportunity to
"redeem" themselves sometime in the near future, at least in AJ's
eyes. So feel free to drek on them. In fact, PLEASE drek on them.
They deserve it.

That's my point. If they redeem themselves, Ripley won't have a
problem accepting them back into the fold, provided they cut their ties
with Drake... :)

Well, there's a sysop, but the SysOp of Shadowland is just that:
Someone who keeps the system running. Anyone elite enough to find
Shadowland can post there. It's not like you have an "account"

Really? How hard do you want them to be enshitted? With this wraith stuff
coming to a crisis soon, I could see some possibilities that could get them
into several different sorts of trouble. Injured is the easiest to manage,
but there's worse I could envision =)

Hell yes we have a sysop, who periodically posts as SysOpus.
And I get to work for him part-time.
Or he may be a them. I'm not sure.

I will start the hunt for R&D. Consider that Shade has summoned up one force
6 greater form storm spirit and one force 7 greater form forest spirit to
hunt them down and cause as much harm as possible to them without killing
them. Though such a feet is usually difficult, my character is a summoning
adept and therefore can do this with the use of his stone circle. They will
begin the hunt at sunrise on 11/24/56 and will fade at the next sunrise of
11/25/56. This should read as non-stop harassment and harm.

I'm impressed... R&D will of course boot it like hell out of Haven as
soon as the critter shows up.

Although R&D might not know this, so they may book anyway, the only way
that Shade's spirits could harass them inside of Haven is verbally.
There's enough magicians and free spirits around often enough to keep it
at that level and to "throw them out" if the others got too "uppity".

But there's something else too, that only The Dark Stranger seems to be
following up on. That the Wraith was drawn to Haven. Sure, it gained a
lot of strength because of the attacks there, but it was there
before-hand. A lot of funky critters(come on, a Man of the Woods likes
the area? MANY free spirits too?) frequent the area, and none of them
are willing to talk about why. Mozart knows, and I've tried hinting
about it in her posts(which were a while ago now), and so does Val, but
neither of them would talk about it much. R&D would, if they explored,
find only 1 area of the building they couldn't get into.

It's as if Haven has started taking on a life of it's own. And nobody is
following up on this, at least not recently.....

Oh well. I'm more than happy to let it alone.

Shade hasn't forgotten, but he believes in much preparation before the
eventual battle. He is currently in the process of talking with the local
supernatural creatures of what they know of Haven. He is also researching
the past of Haven's location.

Alright folks: I would like to ask for a quick sanity check here. What we
have above are TWO Astral Quests, with ratings 6 and 7 respectively,
presumably within a short timespan. That's going to REALLY suck, given the
sort of Drain and Damage involved. Just being any particular class of
character wont' make this easier, though a Conjuring Focus might. I just want
to underscore the fact that the summoning itself is _not_ something that people
can just do casually.

What's more, Nature spirits are not quoted as having Remote Service as one of
their powers (only elementals are), which should mean that the summoner must
have LOS for them to act. Do we want to relax this restriction?

That is incorrect. You don't have to have line of sight, or the search
powers would be useless, not to mention that you could shut off your astral
perception.
Besides, this has already been done. Yes they are high rating quests,
but if you're going to do something, you do it right.

Your appeal to the search power has merit, though of course the search can
only affect things in the spirit's domain, which the summoner must be in
at the time.

About Nature Spirits, they must be in their own domain in order to do
something(ie if forest spirit must be in the forest to follow orders). They
won't follow orders that send them away from their domain. p 228 Second
Edition SR sourcebook.

That is correct only for lesser spirits. I don't have my books near me at
the moment, but greater forms can go anywhere they want. Their search power
increases. They gain the power of Storm in their domain, with the exception
of Greater Storm Spirits who can use the Storm power anywhere they want.
This is from the Grimoire II.

"Great Nature Spirits. Unlike other spirits, great nature spirits can cross
domain lines...Additionally, only great form nature spirits can use the new
Storm power. Spirits of Man cannot have this power."

Nothing noted about relaxing LOS. You're right on about the other stuff =)

We all screw up every now and again, and actually, there are a
few ways to insert the time automagically, but I'm not sure how
I'd go about it with elm. With emacs or Zmail, it's fairly simple
though..

I keep meaning to learn emacs. (Elm can activate almost any text editor to
edit mail. I'm still using joe, which is a wordstar clone. I'll have a look
into it......)

Y'never know, even joe might be capable of it if I can get me hands on any
