Would someone please explain to me the difference between an Adapt and a
full Mage? I thought all mage characters began life as full Mages. I
assume this is 2nd. Edition material?!?

while this is something more appripo (neat big word, spelled atrociously)
to the ShadowRN list, I will give you a brief summery.

In SR I there were just full magicians in the original rule book, with the two
variations of Shamans and Hermetic Mages (or just mages). Adepts were brought
forth in the Grimore supplement (which is now out of date). When SR II came out
Magicians and adepts were both covered in the book, with one more type of adept
to come out later in the Grimore II supplement.

Adepts are by the best explanation, magically capable but not as fully capable
as a true Magician. They are more focused and restricted in their abilities.
They are priority B (or 3) in character creation.

The adept types so far are
Magical adepts - these are adepts who may use only ONE magical skill. This
limits them to either Sorcery, Conjuring or Enchanting. Magical Adepts can be
of either the Hermatic or Shamanic traditions. Magical adepts CAN NOT project
or perceive!!!

Shamanic adepts - Only Shamans can be this type of adept. They only have
access to abilities and spells for which there totem gives modifiers. They do
not get the modifier for these activities. Neither Coyote not Owl can be
shamanic adepts be cause they either have no modifiers or the modifiers are
based on time (ie - game balance and anti-munchkinism). they can Perceive and
project

Elemental adepts - Hermatics with a concentration in one of four elemental types
of spells Combat - Fire; Earth - Manipulation (not mental though)
Water - illusion ; Air - Detection;

Physical adepts - these adepts put their magic straight into their bodies. They
are capable of many things that Street Samurai can do, but do not loose essence.
Possible examples of Phys Ads are berserkes, martial artists and warriors of
shamanic peoples - the possiblity exists that these adepts may have existed
before the awakening.
