Am I the only one who has trouble with dwarves in SR? I can't seem to think
of them as anything other than short stumpy guys with big beards like out
of D&D. A dwarf with any sort of martial arts skill seems ludicrous, and a
dwarf on a motorcycle is even worse. Why in gods name did FASA include the
little buggers? Maybe the Hum. P.club have the right idea...

I dont have any problem with them at all. I personally like the Dwarven
Mage. From a purely numbers perspective, it seems the
obvious choice with the highest will power (resisting drain / spells)
of the metas. Eye sight bonus (but all of my mages pay the ess. for
"mage configuration" eyes (therm, low, mag 3)) is a plus.

The only dwarf I've run as a player (not NPC) was Dancer, russian
Merc. Definitely had an attitude about being as short as he was
with the number of trolls in the group. Spent most of his money buying
this big assed 4x4 monster truck with an elevator to the cab. It was
cool.

I'd never given dwarves a second thought, before Rosha. ... I guess they
(FASA) had metas that were all bigger or faster than humans ... so they
throw dwarves into the mix for racial height balance (yeah right).

Anyway, I just noticed that Rosha was the first dwarf female mage (last
part is a kinda) I've noticed. Dwarven females don't show up very often
generally.

I did like something I read recently on the HMHVV version of dwarves
(goblins) and their presence in Germany (Berlin specifically) raises
interesting possibilities.

:)

I always assumed that the dwarves would have the easiest time of any of
the metatypes in SR.
After all, they're just short people to all external appearances.
We have those already in our world.

I do have to agree that as far as our campaign's go, PC's rarely choose
dwarves.
I think it mainly stems from the "COOL" factor.
Since dwarves really are nothing but short people to most NPC's, why be
normal?
Especially when you could be an elf, or a troll!!

This worked pretty well in an alternate SR campaign I ran, wherein the
metatypes were NOT magical expressions of humanity, but simply mutants,
and genetic experiments.
Dwarves were heavy worlders, used for mining projects on high G planets.
(I know, I know, not very original. Hey! I was just a kid!)
