Still interested here. Too bad I didn't find out about the list earlier (like when it was
still active).

Yeah. Kinda figured. Looked at the archive, and there were something like 2 posts...
Though, I can't talk at all, I'm now responding to a post that is more than a month old.
My extra time lately have been very rare (see .sig for reason ;)

> Care to start something?

Yeah. Would love to start something. Need a bit more free time than I have now, which
definitely won't happen until at least a week after the new year. Oh well!

Any major ideas from anyone? I need to go digging through the archives in more depth.

For what it's worth, I have actively (as in, I have actual code written)
started work on a web based version of ShadowTk. It would have been very
easy to use an off-the-shelf forum package to run ShadowTk, but that
wouldn't be true to the spirit of the list so I decided to write something
from the ground up. It also gives me an excuse to evaluate some libraries
and tools that I've been meaning to work with, so that's a plus too. :)

Realistically, it's going to be anywhere from a couple to a few weeks before
I have something ready for people to look at, but I'm pretty psyched about
the project right now. If you don't hear from me about it again in a couple
of weeks, gently prod me so that I don't let it fall through the cracks. :)

Ah, cool. My only problem is that I tend to forget about web-based Forums, especially if
they are slow going. At least the email all accumulates in the same place.

Perhaps an RSS feed of the ShadowTk forums would help alleviate that problem?

Will do. Am interested to see what you come up with.

Seems interest fell below critical mass. Which is not to say we could
not revive it...or that I don't have a number of plot threads dangling
out there in the ether...but I think at this point we're on full life
support.

What happens to the list, from a server perspective? Will the owners of
the dumpshock server dump us if nobody posts? So far, the answer seems
no, but maybe the listadmins may have a better answer.

So, in answer to your question, Mr. Pufky, you are quite correct in
sensing that not much was going on at all, currently.

critical mass does seem hard to keep up sometimes. Remember though that
this list is over (opens dusty records) 10 years old. Which of course
means that my ShadowRN and Shadowtalk T-shirt is 10 years old and should
probably get cleaned :)

what year is it? (in shadowRun?)

Wow...we now have more than one reported sighting of the "ancient ones."
And no, I don't mean the dreaded IE's.

> what year is it? (in shadowRun?)

Well, unless the WizKids have let things slip, we were playing that it
was 61 years into the future, which would put it at 2064. But if the
official keepers of the ShadowRun chronology have let a year slip to
pull it back to a nice round number, we can sort of fudge it, given the
year has been more than a little quiet. (And frankly, I wouldn't mind
as it gives me an excuse to retcon that my characters weren't sitting at
home twiddling their thumbs for 300-some odd days.)

P.S. One WizKids page has it listed as 2063, but the page is (c) 2002.

2064.

The SR Metagame is 61 years ahead of current time.

The listadmins and the owners of the server are coincidentally the same
people. :) The only way I would remove the lists is if it became clear
to me that it was really really dead for all time. I'm kind of getting
close to that point now to be honest, but it's not like it's a drain on
resources to keep it around. If anyone has some ideas to revive things
I'm most definitely all ears. I have had some thoughts about
transitioning this to a web forum based solution that would be
customized to handle the ShadowTk style posts and a character database.

I would hate to see the list go.

Question: As I am new here, what was the typical
post? Was it more of a discussion of personal plot
threads? More of the public story line?

Why not organize some kind of plot discussion based
upon existing groups, with a "submit your own" group
button?

I joined the list figuring I could throw my ideas
out there, and let folks show me what is good and bad
about them. Perhaps.....

This sounds like a good idea, considering the length of time it's been
taking people to generate run ideas or support material.

I've seen several forums set up similar to the live journals, with avatar
icons for each poster. The character database could be set to recognize 4
views of the character record:
Proposed ShadowTK Forum 1. The GM/Character's owner. He/She would have access to
edit/create the
character, update the character's history, stats, gear, etc.
2. The Reader. This person would be someone reading the thread in the TK
forum, but not be a participant in that thread.
This avatar links to the Poster's character entry in the database. Thus
allowing the reader to at least see the "Public" side of Poster's character.
3. The Poster. This is a participant in the adventure thread. He/She
would be able to post/reply to entries in the TK thread they are registered
in, view the "public" portion of the other posters in the forum.
4. The GM. This person establishes the adventure thread in the TK forum
and maintains the list of thread participants. He/She would have full
access to the character's database record, including the GM's notes,
campaign info, etc.

I realize this would be a pain in the *&! to implement, initially, but would
probably be a lot of fun once it's up and running. The database would
probably be useful to those of participating in irc game sessions as well.

Hey everyone,

I've been on these lists for nearly 10 years now. This will be my very first post, but
I've religiously followed all the storylines that have come and gone over the years. Call
me the ultimate lurker. I fell out of touch with most of my 'running' buddies a few years
ago, but i've always kept up with reading the storylines that have passed through here.

Anyway, I would love to see it moved to a discussion forum type setting. It would
definitely promote a more social atmosphere, and would be easier to advertise and draw
attention to.

I look forward to whatever decision on changes that might happen. Either way i'll still,
at least, be reading, if not posting.

Hey Mike,

I just joined the list and would LOVE to catch up on
what has gone on over the last ten years? Do you or
does anyone have a summary of some sort? Or is there
some kind of archive I can go thru?

Great. I do appreciate it. I am curious, is there a
board or web site somewhere where GM's could post
ideas, adventures, NPC's ect?

Hello, I just joined the lists for shadowtk, Plot-d, & the character posts Last
friday. I know I need to forward a concept to the apropriate mailing list.
I was wondering if any one (and this seemed the apropriate place to ask) could
e-mail me a quick synopsis of the current plot thread, & is there anything
else I need to do to get involved as smoothly as possible?

I think by now you should have started getting more than a "peep".

This is the discussion list for shadowtk, and as the lists were all down for
about 3 days, there really wasn't much to talk about....
