So, it looks like it's Wraith season. I'm willing to go on and write up a
description of the Astral Quest, operating under the assumption that it's going
to be something pretty horrendous. If anyone has any comments or objections,
I'd like to hear them before I get too far into the contemplation of this. =)

Mark, Thel will fail, I do believe. According to Paranormals of Europe: "The
spirit acts as if self-motivated, and has proved immune to conjuring-based
attempts at domination." And "Efforts to identify the wraith's native plane
have thus far proven fruitless."

Evan, no you won't just act like the rest of us, work from the three
books you own and guess at the rest and add strange comments. 8:-)

Well. The thing "acts as a Free Spirit", so one presumes that it does have
some sort of native plane. Of course, it's a _really_ astonishing Free Spirit
because it's can have twice the amount of Spirit Energy as normal, meaning
that it can have up to 24 points thereof. I personally find the "can't find
the home plane" line made to be surmounted when the role-playing motivates it.
Just because one finds the home plane of one wraith does not mean that that is
the plane for all the wraiths. The much bigger problems will be what to do to
get rid of the damn thing: it's ability to soak et. al. is nothing short of
phenomenal: Body and Willpower of 10 + Spirit Energy, plus Magic Resistance.
Given like 10 points of Spirit Energy, it's target number 32 time for magic
to affect it (all other things being equal). Now, given a physical attack,
against Immunity equal to twice Essence (i.e. 24)....it'll be not that hard to
hose it with a certain amount of rigged stuff, but that's not a permanent
solution...

Just because Thel. will fail doesn't mean that she shouldn't try. I can
see it: After a week of trying to figure out where the native plane is,
Thel finally figures it out(she thinks), does a Quest, and after a really
nasty Quest, discovers that she was in the wrong place to begin with, and
that something totally different has come about(every Astral Quest has a
purpose, even if you don't know what it is, remember). Talk about a
chance for character developement.... **grin**

I personally wouldn't want to go there - I have a certain dislike of death.
If I was lucky enough to die, more than likely, the character would just become
a nice little host for horrors

I too have this book. However, dominating a spirit is different than
destroying it or banishing it. You can't dominate an insect queen that you
summon, but you can try to banish it. Second, just because it hasn't been
done before doesn't mean that it can't be done, the game modules are often
harder 5X harder than the average shadowrun. The characters sometimes do the
stuff of heroes. Second, the books are considered to be in-game. In all of
the books, things tend to be left out on purpose by the sponsors of the
material. This has been indicated by many of the books. Ex. Agropedeler
"rarely attacks humans", while a shadowrunner mentioned the fact that they
are quite hostile, intelligent, and murdered a friend of his be dropping a
tree on her head. Don't be a corp. stoop.

Given the game descrip in the book, and the amount of violence that has
occured. I would suggest that the quest is a rating of about 13+ to find the
name. Not impossible, just difficult.

The Truename quest is supposed to equal Essence, which in this case is 12.
Which means a _horrendous_ Quest, to be sure. Meaning expenditure of Good
Karma: lots of this. Also, I'm not sure how you guys play things, but we have
a house rule that allows magicians to burn Magic Rating (under the adequate
role-playing conditions) to assist in magical stuff if they run out of
Karma: I'm expecting to do this too.

I'd rather not let the cat out of the bag as to exactly what I've got planned
just yet (I'm in contact with some people by email), but I have agreement
from Shade that I'll undertake the Quest for the name alone, which will work
but leave Thel in need of some recuperation, at least in the short term.
Then, with the name, people can work on making the ritual stuff to prepare to
confront it. The full effects of what happened on the Quest will become
more evident later. =)

One thing I think we'll need for the confrontation is firepower, both magical
and mundane. Which means if any of y'all want to give their riggers a chance
for target practice, the chance will come.
