I'd like to clear up a few points.
To begin with, just because my characters were new to Shadowtalk at
the time of my story, does this mean that they were new to Shadowrunning?
We aren't playing an RPG... we're writing fiction. Characters don't need
to start off as rookies, and wide-eyed newbies as they do in the game.
Granted, I myself hate characters who run along the lines of the "Cybermage
Street Samurai, with 20 megaton laser cannons built into his arms, every
spell known at the 500th level, and the most wiz cyberdeck you'll ever
see in your lifetime", but none of my characters or scenarios even seemed
slightly outrageous.
Secondly, don't most stories end with the heroes vanquishing the bad guys?
I again have to repeat the statement that the purpose of this list is for
writing fiction, and NOT for playing a game with dice rolls and tables.
If I want to write that my characters beat the evil minions of the mega-
corp, I should be able to write it! If I want them to fail, I should
be able to write it! I don't govern my writing by a roll of dice... I
govern it by deciding what's interesting, what's stale, and what jives
with everything I've written in the past (as long as it's in the realm
of reason).
If Eric and Bill want to leave the list, let them. I think they're
looking for a game, while I'm looking for interesting storylines.
