Erstens, appreciation to the Fearless Leader in his approval of my proposal.

Now to business:

I seek suggestions for possible categories for the awards.

Among the ones I have already considered:

Best Picture ( Plot ) [ perhaps divided into "Major" and
"Minor" ]

Best Actor in a Leading Role }
Best Actress in a Leading Role } Assumed to be protagonists
Best Actor in a Supporting Role } of sorts.
Best Actress in a Supporting Role }

Best Villain in a Leading Role
Best Villain in a Supporting Role

Best Director (based off of organization of a plot-line)
Best Writer (based off of prose, not necessarily a plot-organizer)

Possible Prose Awards (our version of the myriad "technical awards")

Best Characterization Prose
Best Descriptive Prose
Best Dramatic Prose
Best Humorous Prose
Best Silly Prose
Best Verbose Prose

(Additions/Suggestions/Opinions?)

Also, there could be a small number of "Special Achievement" awards to
supplement or in lieu of the earlier possible prizes.

Also, the "Raspberry" awards are a possibility.

Most Munchkin comes to mind . . . others?

I seek suggestions; however, I am NOT, REPEAT, NOT accepting nominations AT
THIS TIME. Another admonition I would like to make: Avoid "tailored" awards,
such as "Best Attack upon a Rampaging AI by an Ethnic Character involved in an
Illuminati Plot funded by Amway". All such blatantly contrived suggestions
shall be IGNORED.

*GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR*

NO suggestions?

NO observations?

NO opinions from so fervently individualistic an assembly as this?

I opted for responsibility for this project due to the fact I saw a demand
a desire for it, and I wanted it handled in a equitable and fair manner.

Is all the enthusiasm gone, or shall I simply have to fabricate the
categories myself? As I said twice in my earlier communique, I
wanted suggestions! I still do.

The problem is, Doom, that you're too good at your job. You gave us
a list of awards that wsseemed pretty comprehensive. All I've been
able to think of by way of additions are specifics off your generalities
(like Most Elowquent Villain().

I do think that a couple of your technical awards should be done
away with, especially ones dealing with "Best Prose" or the like
(I'm working from memory here, so if I'm really off, let me know).
There have been some posts I haven't really cared for style-wise, and
others have raved about. The category is too subjetive, open to too
mahny opinions, IMHO.

Just my thoughts

Gee Doom, I thought you'd pretty much covered all the bases with your
suggestions.

all these ones deleted sound good

the "its a big sandbox" achievement - this is people who successfully get a
multitude of people in volved in the plot and having fun. This would be for
last year when it seemed like we were a much closer knit group than now.
(for those who don't know - there were ATLEAST 5 parties in the first 4 months
of shadowtalk - 1 bachelor party, 1 wedding shower, one Core Wars party, 1
wedding :), 1 "girl's night out", and a few other parties)

good idea

maybe, though some people might take it bad

Time - What are the time constraints? Is it going to be ALL the stuff ever
done as of yet? I personally would like to see it broken up into Spring 93,
Summer 93 , Fall 93 and Spring 94. We seem to have a lot more plots and things
than the normal awards type things have. Also, many people here were not here
last year or even last semester - this gives them a lack of knowledge in being
able to choose well and gives plots from the spring a big disadvantage.
