Just wondering at the new trend - The internal security memos from
SI and Maxim, etc... I'm just wondering... does it mean those corps are using
Shadowland to route their internal messages, or is it just artistic licence.
Now, I _Like_ those posts, don't get me wrong, but I just wonder at the
mechanics behind it. I mean, back a while ago, I had some unidentified Azzie
higher ups discussing Vargas when he kidnapped Ryuga - But that was on purpose,
they were using Shadowland because they didn't trust their internal
communications (Internal politics can be such fun). We all go to quite
complicated lengths to get pieces of plot not directly postable as character's
comments under way - Like Trideo Pirate's news cuttings, Rumormonger's vid
postings, a while ago there was a Decker that had a dataworm in the Maxim
mainframe and was leaking their internal communications to Shadowland.

Just going ahead and posting them 'just like that' seems... too easy.

DISCLAIMER: This is not a criticism. It's just an opinion. A comment.

For myself, Maxim does occasionally route stuff through ShadowLand, and
when you see PRIVATE: Velli/Avatar in a heading, then it's generally
going through ShadowLand as anything else would. The "PRIVATE: Maxim
Internal (blank) Log" means that it's internal communications and meant
to show what is going on inside Maxim between, generally, Velli and
Avatar, with Dr. Spin occasionally.

When Maxim was up and going full bore for a while last spring, I did have
Mercury plant data worms, and I'd had Dante do something similar prior to
that as well. Again, all for plot development so that we all, as
players, could know what was going on even if our characters didn't.
What fun is a story if you can't tell it because it's all going on behind
the scenes?

I've been trying to move away from using "ShadowLand" for anything that
wasn't between Maxim and field operatives, instead relying on internal
comm. logs instead. The person who is local to the recording location is
generally un-quoted. To use yesterday's Maxim post as an example, Velli
was unquoted because the recording was logged in at the Boulder HQ, not
in Ute, where Avatar/John was. If everyone is local, then it varies from
where in, say, Boulder, it was recorded.

I hope this clarifies why, and maybe how, I do my Maxim posts. As I
said, I'm getting away from using SLand for most of the Maxim stuff
unless it's likely that it would be used.

Can't speak for anyone else, but those SI posts are just artistic
liscense. I canna' think of anything original, so I'm following Brian's
lead. *grin* That doesn't mean I'm not slaving over a hot brain trying to
think of something myself though. =)

SI used Shadowland for contacting their external operatives via
GhostMailer, but even though it hasn't reached Sland yet, things are
starting to heat up (stuff in TT), and SI is moving to a more militant
standing, and doing their best to be indestructable (haha).

Better safe than sorry. *puts down flamethrower* =)

As for myself, I think it's mainly a device to let people on the list "see"
what is going on outside the rather insular Shadowland BBS. I will denote all
internal logs (i.e. not visible to the public) as such =)
