I can think of one major strike against keeping in our timeline and not
of SR3.

We run the potential of confusing every person who joins the list after
SR3 is released. With that confusion, the confused people might blurt
something out the list hasn't covered in its timeline yet. (Which will
result in short tempers and possibly some interesting discussions on
plot-d about the old boy's club that this place is.)

(I'm full of irony lately...)

I think there are more negatives than that, but I'm blanking. While I
still am for the keeping our timeline as it is and not jumping, I would
like to know the advantages of keeping up with FA$A's timeline.

Which is why I strongly suggest putting something about this in the FAQ in
time for SR3.

When Paul and I discussed this in private, I seem to recall concluding that
it was a risk, but something that could be retroactively removed if needed.
Unlike RN, it doesn't seem we get many newbies that don't read the FAQ at
least briefly, so we should be mostly safe.

>(I'm full of irony lately...)

Better have a doctor look at that. Could result in either death or a show
on HBO. Odds are death though.

If we leap forward to 2060 when SR3 is released, we have two side-affects.
First is that we lose four months (leaping from Aug-59 to Jan-60). There
is also the difficulties we'd have with trying to keep our dates straight.
And we all know what those two affects would do to our plots.

It is highly likely that at least until fall 99, SR sourcebooks that will
arrive after SR3 will still be in the year 2060.

I think that it be best if we just putter along as normal, just put
something in bright flashing neon in our FAQ explaining our situation.

Yes that's a possibility. But it can be dealt with, and I haven't seen
much flaming over the last year, so tolerance levels on the list have
climbed considerably. :)

But it is an old boys club. Look at the relative ages of the posters on
this list. <grin>

Advantages? Only the one you mention.

I think the negatives, and Bug City is the single best example of
bombshells, outweigh the benefits. OK, so one or two new posters
/might/ blurt something. But we run that risk anyway with the BitB
release, and things like Smugglers Havens and future releases. I mean,
there's a new Seattle book due around the time of SR3, I expect that to
have a dramatic effect on the city we have all abused so heavily.
Including some radical rethinking on areas and the way things happen in
the area. Allowing even for the rumoured independence of the city state
from the UCAS.

I don't honestly think FASA will ever stop dropping high explosive
devices into their game world, it keeps people on their toes, and it
would be much more relaxed for us if we had a chance to catch up. After
all, we still haven't started using the new posting format, although
I've noticed a couple sigs appearing after the t/d stamp lately. :)

I'm hearing that you may not be as old as you keep claiming there Pete...

New Seattle isn't due until I believe November at the earliest. I'd have
to check a few things, including the FASA web site, but it won't fall right
on the heels of SR3. It should be interesting to see what they've done to
Seattle in the days since the first Seattle Sourcebook. I strongly suspect
independence will not be one of them.

As long as it's making them money and they keep getting good feedback from
the consumers, they'll keep shaking things up.

(deepest apologies to those with HTML compatible mailers. :)

Would that do?

"No they're not. It's a lie, they're mine I tell you. MINE!!!"

Oh, oops, wrong list. :@/

I can't imagine where you're getting that information from. Well,
actually I can... Remind me to send you the geographical location of
the cave where I was uncovered. :)

That sounds about right.

Oh I know, but it's been an ongoing thing in the modules and what have
you, how Seattle is pushing for secession from the UCAS to it's own
status. Something that Schultz and co want quite badly. I can't see it
happening for all sorts of things, but the rumour still floats around.

And I won't be trying to stop them, provided they keep things within
believability limits - and not alien invasion, as I was told you
suggested last month. :)
