Actually, the Wu-Tang Clan doesn't do "gangta rap." That's a mostly West
Coast phenomenon, most notable practiced by the now defunct NWA, Ice-T,
Snoop Doggy Dogg, etc. It's evolved, especially up in the Bay Area, to be
more of a "playa style" or maybe could be called "pimp rap," which is
Dru
Down, Too Short, and the like.
Wu-Tang falls more with the general East Coast roughneck style, which is
similar to gangsta in some ways, especially in the macho posturing. It's
tough, but it's not gangsta.
Everything else in that TK post is about right though. If nothing else,
groups like the Wu-Tang at least try to include positive messages about
education and knowledge, trying to strip education of it's ghetto stigma.
That's about it. We now return you to your regularly scheduled Plot-D.
