How about this?
A few weeks before the Pope's death, he was on a tour of several
European countries. In his speeches, he was stressing that violent
policlubs, such as Humanis, should be disbanded, since all they
preach is hatred. He also stressed that humans and metahumans should
live with one another in brotherhood, since God created both of them.
In Europe, where the policlub idea is even stronger than it is in
the 'States', his speech would have a much greater impact on the people.
Perhaps some Humanis leaders got a little nervous from his speech, and
decided to take matters into their own hands? Killing a prominent
figure such as the Pope, and then spewing forth all kinds of propaganda
(such as that sent out by Hand of God), would actually be a great way
to further their cause.
How did he die though, when he was surrounded by all of those
precautionary measures? While he was giving one of his speeches, a
Humanis terrorist with a VERY low-grade nuke strapped to his body,
jumped at him. His bodyguards responded by firing at the terrorist, and
when his hand fell off the trigger button... Boom. Bye-bye went the
Pope, the fanatical Humanis member, the bodyguards, and about half the
audience members. (The death of the audience members is why the church
would want to keep it so secret.)
Sounds good?
