It's the only way we could think of to signify that a decker has been
possessed by a spirit, or in this case, a modified specter. It
signifies a change in speaker.

Sure, I supposse somebody could wonder about it, but maybe it's just
a headache, or line noise or something, too.

It's a device used to indicate possession :) The "signal alteration"
repesents the demonic influence of the evil Freddy Frypp taking over
poor Poppa Chubby, or the late Saint Frypp speaking through a medium to
his loyal followers, or the sadly-deranged Poppa Chubby _thinking_ he's
possessed by Freddy... :)

But it's basically someone speaking through Poppa, be it a deceased Elf
or Chubby's "dark side". ISTR Brimstone (a rather nasty spirit) and
Marksanspensah having a similar duet going on when I joined the list.

Hey, I've been spending a lot of time in religion and communications
classes this term. I gotta use big words like that!

[ISTR??? I Seem To Remember?]

Yeah, John and I figured that device would be the best way to
indicate that the spirit's taken over. Some people let the spirit
posses the character then start the post (such as Dianna and Baron,
right?), but we liked the idea of somebody exhibiting split
personalities -- which for Marksanspensah was really neat considering
some of the trouble he had gotten into with Brimstone. B>

Ahhhh.... I had assumed that Poppa was possessed by Frypp, but also I
was considering the possiblity that Poppa was controlled by Frypp, and
the signal alteration was actually Frypp hacking into Poppa's signal,
especially seeing as the conversation from Poppa continued afterwards
without pause, as though he didn't know. Possession is a difficult thing
to deal with at the best of times :)

Oh well, looks like Frypp really is dead, and my thoughts on him hacking
was wrong. *sigh* back to the drawing board :)
