As you probably know by now Frankie the SPAS has died from a bout of In
Party Fighting syndrome. I shall not bore you with the details. Thus i'm
introducing a new character going by the name of Glasses. He shall make an
appearance when I get round to writing something out.

Sounds good... I'm sad about his death, even though my character had no
affiliation with him whatsoever.... Good luck mon.

Hiya Dan.......

Good way to introduce a character is to post an account
of an event in his life. A bad way to do that, but to rip off
a book in a really blatant fashion.....some people know
what I'm talking about!

Hey, if he's a mafioso, arriving in town....there's a certain
woman who might be interested....;-))

J.

PS ALL YOU NEWBIES, LISTEN UP....See what Dan's just
done? That's the *right* way to join pretty much any mailing
list - post a 'hello' message, indicate you've read the faq, and
ask for advice, not just to dive in head first, with crap formatting
and zero regard for list etiquette...HINT HINT!

I'm posting my description here since the full description is much
longer than the requisite 8 lines permitted in the cast description.

Oukami (Osato, Ryoku) -- Darren/Torin/Who Ever... <torin@****.com>
--
Osato's family has worked for the Yamana (of Fuchi fame) for almost a
millenia. Currently his sister works for Yamana-sama and up to a week
ago, so did I. I was a senior contract negotiater for Fuchi on the
corporate level, ensuring that the interests of Yamana were cared for.
Then my wonderful daughter expressed herself as a troll. Those
no-nashi-mono considered her a disgrace. What inu-zamurai. I was
relocated here to Seattle in supposed disgrace. While here I was
approached by Villiers-sama for work to regain honor. I've been working
on some projects that will help integrate goblinized children a bit more
into society and make sure that they get education and other benefits
due to them as Fuchi dependents. The Yamana mushi-kera have set me up
as a criminal fall-person in their schemes. I've had to run from them
with my daughter. I've contacted my sister and she's unable to
counteract their schemes. If I am arrested, they will certainly kill
Aimi. I must run to the shadows where I've met others of the Wolf.

I'll be posting soonest.

I would like to introduce a new character named Mockingbird. He
is American, though he is currently working in Tokyo, Japan for Fuchi
CDC. He generally has a laid back attitude.

As of late, the magical group known as the Shifters has been in need of
some new members. Currently the only people running active characters in
the group is Jaimie N. and myself (there have been others, but they keep
disappearing on us o_O ). So, in order to bolster them, and because I
have been tinkering with the character concept for a while, I want to
bring in a new main character:

Street Name: Michael (pronounces it MEE-khai-el)
Birth Name: Jacob Vincent Charles
Archetype: Full Mage, Hermetic (Kabbalist), former student.
Description: 23 years old, caucasian male of mixed european decent.
Wavy (inhumanly) red hair worn at a moderate length. Penchant for wearing
Judeo-christian religious symbols as jewelry.

MiniBio:

Michael (it was his confirmation name, but you'll never hear that or his
real name from him, it's a TrueName thang) graduated not too long ago with
a B.A. in Kabbalist Studies from the School of Theology, Thaumaturgy, and
Ministry of that fine Jesuit institution: Seattle University. He showed
enough promise to be admitted to their Th.D. program and, with a lot of
extracurricular work as well, began learning about metamagic and the
metaplanes (he managed to reach 0th grade initiation). For that he was
praised.... When his advisor found out what he was doing for his master's
thesis, he was kicked out on his ear, and currently finds himself very
deep in debt. [Those college loans can be killer! ;) ] Too much of a free
spirit (meant figuratively, of course), to consider becoming--or to be
seriously considered to become--a corporate wage-mage, he has decided to
try his hand at shadowrunning. Considers himself a good Catholic boy, for
all that's worth. His centering skill, which he's not too good at yet, is
envoking the names of angels, often in Hebrew. (No, I don't know enough
Hebrew to actually do this for real, forgive me, but it makes sense for
the character).

So, besides wanting somebody to add to the Shifters' roster, I'm actually
wanting to bring this guy in because I think he'll be an interesting
character. The reason I make it a point to say he's a Kabbalist, is that
I figure there are about as many "flavors" or hermetic mage as there are
shamans out there. Since I already am running an Asiatic shaman, I figure
why not a Kabbalist hermetic? Also, there is enough easily (read web)
accessible history and lore on Kabbala (by which I mean the theological/
philosophical stuff that originally stemmed from Jewish esoteric mysticism
and not the new-age stuff goes by the same name) that I think that it
would make a good "spice" (to continue the metaphor) for storytelling.
Plus a sub-theme of magic in relation to religion is something I think
might be interesting to weave into a story. Plus, some of the ideas I
have for future story ideas are just plain cool, although for surprise
factor I don't want to really discuss them other than to say that they
shouldn't violate ShadowRun cannon.

P.S. Wait 'til you see his girlfriend....

And what would that be? >>insert sheepish grin here<<

(Hey, aren't you supposed to be on my side?)

I assume you're talking about the reason for him getting himself booted
out of Seattle U. Suffice to say that he was engaged rather heavily in
um...unapproved research and experimentation. Enough to get most people
kicked out of most colleges, but when your advisor is a stodgy Jesuit
priest named Fr. Antoine and you are in the Thaumaturgy department, the
forceful boot of institutional thinking can come down rather hard. While
what he was doing was not strictly criminal, he not only shocked his
advisor, but was almost completely ignoring what he should have been
working on, which frankly bored him to death. Free thinking and
experimentation, especially in a field which is so potentially dangerous,
is highly frowned upon in academia.

It is also what makes him mostly unemployable as a wage-mage. On the
other hand he was approached after being...removed from the university, by
a few people of questionable moral character that were curious if he would
like to work for various corporations, shall we say, unofficially. (Full
hermetic mages are rare, you know, despite what the list may indicate. So
better a bad apple than nothing at all.) While he didn't exactly trust
them, those offers, as well as what he'd seen on the trid made him think
that shadowrunning might be a lucrative answer to his problems.
Unfortunately, it is also an indication of just how naive he is. A
condition that will no doubt change after he joins the ranks of the
shadowrunning community.

--My own two yen

Jeff

P.S. If that doesn't suffice, and while it would have been described soon
enough after getting the character going, if you really must know the
whole story...

>>SPOILER ALERT<<
>>25 lines separation<<

Instead of working on the design of the spell that he was supposed to be
working on, he was making extended forays into astral space and the
metaplanes. A quite possibly dangerous course of study to begin with.
While out there, he met an entity that he found utterly fascinating.
What's more, the spirit found him about as interesting, and they ended up
spending time together and learning about each other. Wanting to know
what his world was like, and perhaps in its own naivete, it decided to
allow Michael to make it his ally.

While Michael tried hard to cover up the fact that he was "acquiring" the
materials for the ally ritual, his advisor found out and tracked him down,
disrupting the ritual before it could be complete. Michael had only
recently completed the training and study to be granted a dispensation
from the Church to allow him to be a summoner (hey, its part of the
cannon, check the Grimoire II, Religion and Magic section) and now, here
he was summoning an ally? The thought of it gave Fr. Antoine fits. But,
after listening to Michael, he found that while he may have been reckless
and endangered himself, he wasn't doing it for the wrong reasons. On the
other hand, the misuse of university property, misconduct, and other
misdeeds meant that he wouldn't be continuing his studies at Seattle U.
and left a black enough mark on his record that other universities that
specialized in his field didn't want to touch him.
