SFO isn't close enough???!!! Hell, it's right on the bay, according to my
California map. Unless it was destroyed or severely damaged.

It is a bit big, though....

Actually, both the Oakland airport and SFO are near the water, but on
opposite sides of the bay. In case you have to miss the runway, it is
better to hit soft water than hard ground. Funny thing is, IIRC, there use
to be this flight that went from Oakland to SFO to pick up more
passengers. They didn't even bother to retract the landing gear.

So when are you going to bring back a PC or two on TK Tom?

Anyway, how close to the water is SFO? I mean, we practically need the
runways to jut out into the harbor almost. Maybe not that much, but the
closer the better.

I guess it depends on what you mean. Like I said earlier, some of the
runways for both SFO and Oakland International both aim right at the bay
and while the runway doesn't extend _into_ the water (although IIRC, the
landing lights do), both airports have extended the land into the bay to
make the runways which end within a few hundred feet of the water. What
did you want to do? Drive off the end and into the bay? Unfortunately,
the San Francisco area doesn't have any smaller airports that extend into
the bay that aren't Naval Air Stations and I have the funny feeling you
don't want one of those.

I'm a little confused about your "jut out into the harbor" comment. I
assume you mean "bay" not harbor, since there are litteraly dozens of
harbors throughout the San Fransisco Bay. Due to its size and the fact
that the Sacramento and San Joachine rivers both empty into it, it is one
of if not the largest port in the world. Most people don't realize it,
but the network of deep channels and harbors fingers into the delta such
that even Stockton, which looks to be near the middle of California's
Central Valley actually has a sea port. Or to put it in perspective, when
Sir Francis Drake found it, he got the King's attention by telling him
frankly that the San Francisco Bay could comfortably harbor both the
British and Spanish Armadas so easily, that they might not even be able to
find each other. Which is why California was actually one of the major
points of the French and Indian War.

Right in one.

You should see what we mean, hopefully this Friday. It will involve a
stunt that we admit would be extremely difficult to do by anyone other than
a talented rigger, and even then would be a cast iron bitch. But it reads
cool, so hey!

Exactly. I knew all that (like Stockton having ocean type shipping) but
being down here in SoCal (also supposedly known as the Digital Coast...) we
sometimes pretend to forget there's anything north of Santa Barbara...
