I had a kind of interesting idea for the beginnings of a
plot.. As it stands right now, it's just that, a seed of
an idea, but I thought I would run it past you guys to see
what kind of response I get.

Basically, the main part of it is that a Corp has been
using clone bodies, force grown and stuffed with skillsofts
as soldiers. Somehow, runners find out about it, and ...
I dunno. Just the beginnings like I mentioned. Maybe the
Corp is taking bods off the street, lobotomizing 'em and
stuffing 'em with skills.. <shrug> I dunno yet.

The question is: why is this more cost effective than getting properly
trained soldiers? Not just in terms of cast, but also PR? It would have
to be a really underhanded corp (ie, somebody that doesn't even HAVE a
public image) in order to even THINK about trying to get away with these
kinds of shinanigans.

Who's to say that it is? It could just be a way to ensure
absolute loyalty and single-minded ness. Also, they might
only be used for sensitive situations where threats against
families of corp guards is an issue. (Hard to threaten the
family of someone who was vat grown, chummer. :-)

I don't necessarily agree. Maybe the corp is using it as
a means to "field test" a new design or something? Like I
said, it was only the very basic beginning of a plot _idea_.
<shrug> I dunno.. I'll do some more thinking. I was just
reading ShadowTech again, and the thought sprung to mind
when the characters were talking about that possibility..

Its far easier to meat-rig someone and get / expect total loyalty. Its also
much CHEAPER when it comes right down to it. None of that expensive benefits
thing that humans are so fond of. Dont bother even thinking about a
salary and threat pay (hazard pay).

The bodies of the Sin-less are pretty easy to come by. Hell, a lot of them
will even line up at your door if you promise something like...say a
good place to sleep for the night, a shower, and a good meal. You give
them all a good checkup, pick out the best of the lot, and send
the rest off (will full bellies so that they will go and tell their friends)
and get ready for tomorrow.

If you want an underhanded corp, just INVENT one. Try this one: The
Grand Poobah Toy Company, based in Portland, a subsidiary of Magazini
Technologies.

Two words: NO CLONES.

Besides the sinless are so much cheaper to use{

I'm new on here, so I was wondering if anyone's ever done anything with
those power sats that are mentioned in the front of the SRII book?
The ones that collected solar energy and beam it to earth.

I was thinking of an adventure element that involved refocusing one of
them on a building or the like. I imagine it would do some damage...

Just an idea, flame away.

I'm new here too, but this sounds like an interesting idea. In
Simcity2000 one of the available power sources is a satelite beamed
microwave collector, sometimes it misfires and creates widespread
destruction. These sound very similar to the power sats. Possibly some
nut ball group would try to use one to wreak havoc somewhere. <how about
Humanis/alamos 20000 decides to try to point one at Portland just to make
a point?>

Since the newbies seem to be commenting on this, I'll interject as well (I
admit it, I too am a newbie). Immagine how the corps would resond to this
threat. Their power sources are no longer secure, and are now a weapon.
Zurich-Orbital may have something to say about this activity. Does anyone
know if any corps sponser Humanic/Alamos 20000?

"Any?" Ha! They ALL do! <crazed, fanged, metahuman sneer>

Or at least individuals in most of them....
