1) Nanites (basic types, mostly metal- and poison-carriers) are already
used in SR; see the CyberTech section of the ShadowTech book for
references. Admittedly, the ones in SR have to be guided to their
target by exterior electromagnetics, but that's how much of the cyber
'wiring' is done. (You don't think they opened up your whole .body. for
Skillwires, did you?!?)
The advanced nanotech that is conceived of for the plot is not .too. far
a leap; and the 'destruction' of the technology is something that could
be pretty much guaranteed, by either end-plotting accident, or
pre-plotted deliberate destruction. I think it foregone that
.everybody. would have to stick to this, none of this 'I got it out just
before it was wiped' stuff. (I've pulled it before, so I'm not
screaming at anyone more than myself. ;) )
2) The Dolphin. I could handle it.... although perhaps not as an
ongoing afterwards. That's happening a whole .hell. of a lot lately.
