Ok, regardding the subject of submarines and drift nets/fishing nets.

Subs get caught in them all the time. It's NOT a pretty picture.

Dolphins get caught in them (as do other sea-going mammals) because the
nets reflct a radar image that is similiar to that of a school of fish.
So the animal sharges in thinking it is lunch time, only to find
themselves in a situation where they can't surface and they drown.

Tht'ats a drawback of living in a land where it is dark below 50 feet and
you have to rely on long-range radar.
