email messages from me =) With the posting of the Astral Quest, the
wraith event itself looks like it's pretty much over. By now order has been
restored in Redmond and recovery efforts are underway, as well as a rather
pointed probe as to exactly what the hell happened. I had fun writing up
the stuff, and I believe it furnished us quite a bit of opportunity for
character development, including on my side:
Jason Tylor: an upper-middleclass hermetic originally from New York. Currently
pursuing graduate studies toward a ThD after spending some time in the
shadows gaining experience and funding. And making connections...
Alex N: A fixer and trouble-shooter par excellance. His clientele is what
might be described as "exclusive", and he's not widely known to many people
at all. He's got a very good working relationship with several corps, and is
actually living under the aegis of one of them as part of payment for
services rendered. He has or can call on the expertise to do most any
equipment modification, and regularly gets hardware comfortably before it
hits the "street".
V-12 and Co: a small group of three riggers and two deckers, specializing in
jobs that require exotic gear and excellent "piloting". V-12 has tried to
make the groups image as "effective", rather than "high-profile", and
their
work has met with substantial approval. V-12 and Alex were involved together
in some serious turmoil in the past, making them friends and giving V-12's
group access to Alex's expertise and resources. For a nominal fee =)
That being out of the way, I would like to comment on the aspect of the recent
events. Truth be told, I don't actually like causing hundreds or thousands
of casualties, major civic unrest, and large-scale magical holocaust very
often. The problem was that the Wraith is actually a severely obnoxious
creature, and depending on how literally you take the Paranormal Guide is
easily the most unmanageable creature in the game. Power-wise, there should
normally be very little Runners could do against it; it's a threat more
commensurate with military intervention. When I came up with the opposing
Free Spirit angle, I thought it had enough "role-playing" potential to run
with it, but the consequences more or less had to be mass destruction.
I'm hoping that there aren't too many more ultra-powerful beasties lurking
in the woodwork. I can handle this list having a somewhat more "exuberant"
worldview than I personally campaign with, but some things just _are_
unfriendly beyond the normal scope of character interactions. I'm just
worried about the potential for things to get _too_ far out of hand =)
