In case people think the Dark Stranger is overreacting to all this, perhaps
he is. But what is it he is reacting to?

Let me drop this big hint. Haven is a source for major magical power.
Sizable background count. Now think about HB and Bug City and Aztlan...

Now, Mr. Angliss probably isn't going this way (I sure hope not), but this is
how the Dark Stranger would react to all this.

Take it how you will.

Nope, I'm not going the Harlie's Back/Bug City/Aztlan route. And as it
stands, it would take some 30 or so years for Val's plan to come to
fruition, but what that plan is will be revealed slowly.

I liked tDS's post. I wouldn't have figured on "lesser Ghost Dance"
thing, personally, but considering the size of the hermetic circle....
You know, I could figure out a real number....nah, only detract from the
plot.

And 20 initiates? Damn, that means I have to make up seven more....I
only had 13.

**grin**

Hehehe. 30 years? Geez, what's taking him so long? ;-)

Glad you aren't taking the "Enemies Back...and Early!" tack. 'Course, tDS
doesn't know that...

On the fictional Kensington Scale, tDS was guessing 20 standard, unitiated
mages. And given what he saw of the mages at Haven, he also guessed they
would suffice...so you had better not make more mages! ;-)

I used "lesser Ghost Dance" for several reasons. I'm not talking about
leveling mountains or anything, but that term could be used for any powerful
ritual requiring great magical power and skill. Kinda like in "Secrets of
Power part 3 (I think)".

Well, enough explanation. Glad ya liked it. Now I need Shade and Thel to
respond...

He's not a 4th world elf. Elf, yes. Old, yes. But not THAT old. And
he knows enough of what could happen that he's placed really severe
constraints on his friends and students. "No Violence" being the most
important. We wouldn't want corruption, now would we?

Oops.... Too late. **grin**

Almost forgot!

Val's been at this, in one form or another, for 20 years already.

He's really patient....

Argh. Well, Thel is undergoing a period of complete rest following the
Astral Quest. People won't hear anything from her or see anything of her
until the actual showdown with the Wraith. My finals period is starting up
now, but I'm going to be doing the writeup, hopefully to be posted to the
net around the second week of December at the latest. I've been in touch with
several people privately about the goings on, and it looks things are shaping
up reasonably well. All I'll say now is that the "full disclosure" of the
state of affairs will have to wait until after the Wraith is defeated.

If there's some sort of mega magical whatzit under Haven *mumble* then it's
definitely advisable to have the ambush take place elsewhere. I'll let
everyone know now that there's going to be a _lot_ of repercussions from the
combat, including some MAJOR collateral damage in terms of both property and
civilians. Be warned.

In fact, that brings up an interesting point. Is anyone interested in having
a character die a Suitably Dramatic Death(tm)? If so, this would be a great
opportunity. Please volunteer asap so I can plan (or else not =)
