Hi There !
The tibet thread i started on friday will be the first thread i will run
here...
Here is what i am waiting from you :
- your mister johnson needs info to plan the run. Up to those who have
some info about Tibet to give them to him.
(his name is sneaky, elf snake shaman. No rep... almost none... he is a
pretty hot guy... Last year, he financed an op on a jap' island where
a renraku encampment was. As the shadows have said, the Invae were here
under a volcano. they were freed by him.
- then, as soon as he will have enough info to plan his run, he will
start to recruit muscle... and then i will run the thread to its
conclusion.

As soon as I will have enough info about what your characters are thinking
is going on in Tibet i will conclude...
That was,
Fu
for the fun of it !

bye.

I have serious qualms about this thread. first of all "Muscle"? to get into
Tibet? Second - the info on Tibet - "They closed themselves off from the world
and NO ONE can get in." period. Now you may look at this as just something to
be broken so that it looks cool, but think about WHY they did it.

Their cut off from the world - not even sattelite info can be gotten, they no
longer exist. There had to be a FASA reason. My best bet is that they had a
vague plan an need a back drop and a few subtle clues that would make sense if
you knew a lot. They decided to pick Tibet because it was a remote country were
no-one went anyway, it was a country that was still filled with a strong belief
(proven correct) in magic. The reason is pretty clear,

Horrors

In EarthDawn, countries and places locked themselves away from the invasion by
means of sticking themselves in the ground surrounded by True Earth (I think,
its been a while since I've skimmed the books) or they errected barriers to
keep out the horrors.

The horrors are coming early this time, Tibet wasn't taking chances and decided
to lock themselves away as soon as the could. They even beat the coming of the
insect spirits (which you correctly called the invae - but really shouldn't use
the term since many people would have no idea what your talking about).

What my characters think - those who know things atleast

"Tibet, their playing it safe and hiding early before the storm."

About Earthdawn Horrors in Shadowrun...

Our group has had a bit of fun speculation about this, but we've basically
come to the conclusion that it's going to be a while -- a long long while
before Horrors, real horrors, not piddly stuff like invae and wraiths, show
up. There just isn't enough mana around to let them start crawling in yet,
and it's going to take a while for such mana to accumulate. Looking at how
mana-rich earthdawn is, with all the talents, blood magic, passions, etc, the
world of shadowrun just doesn't compare yet. Granted, there's folx in the
shadowrun universe that have an inkling of what's coming, but if they know
that much they probably know they've got awhile to prepare for it, and that
shutting themselves off now is probably not a good idea...yet. There's still
so much to be done in preparation. So i don't buy the idea that Tibet closed
itself off in kaers already, altho i can see themselves becoming seclusive
and getting ready...

What do others think? How long before the next Scourge? Harlequin doesn't
seem to be too worried about it, yet...

actually, from what I have heard this is incorrect.

> There just isn't enough mana around to let them start crawling in yet,

Normally - a post from last year mentioned that FASA's view was that the
mana cycle was going much faster than expected this time around. This has
Harlequin and everybody else worried since people aren't really ready for the
horrors to show up

What people will do about it
Tir Tairngire - the will make the GREAT BARRIER (see TT)
Aztlan - who knows - probably go - "We like Horrors!!!"
Insects - "make one last desperate act" - Shadowrun promo for Bug city
Tibet - close themselves off

>What do others think? How long before the next Scourge?

Not too long - things may slow it down - see below

>Harlequin doesn't seem to be too worried about it, yet...

Really - what about this exerpt from "VOICES FROM THE PAST"

..... Stuff before this

Harlequin "And you feel them, do you not?"

Spirit Wraith "I feel nothing."

"You can taste them in the air."

"I taste nothing."

"Smell them on the wind."

"The air is still."

"Hear them laughing in the silence, calling for their due."

"I hear only your maddening voice."

The figure lowered its arm. "You lie to yourself."

Harlequin rushed toward the figure. "I DO NOT!" he howled, his hands
clenched into sweaty fists. He shook them at the robed figure. "It is too
soon!"

"They are coming."

Harlequin spun away, then rounded back on his antagonist. "It is too
soon! They cannot be coming!"

"You lie to yourself."

"It is you who lies to me!"

"As I have said."

Harlequin turned again and stumbled back toward the fire. "It is too
soon..." he mumbled. "Nothing is right...I cannot understand..."

"You do not wish to understand. The humans play with things they do
not comprehend because no one teaches them."

Harlequin whirled back to face the figure. "And telling them would
stop them? I think not."

The figure shifted. "The humans have danced their little dance,
Har'lea'quinn. They shook this world, and the others. Now they pay the
price."

Harlequin grasped his head and shook it. "No...It is too SOON..."

"You will still be saying that when they tear the fingers from your
hands and blind you with them. Have you fallen so far, Har'lea'quinn? Have
you forgotten the horror?"

"I can't..."

"Nor can I." The figure stared at Harlequin. "I expected more
from
the last Knight of the Crying Spire."

Harlequin stared back at the figure. "The Northern Islands are GONE.
Forgotten dust of a forgotten world."

"As all shall be, Har'lea'quinn, as all shall be."

"WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE ME DO?" Harlequin cried.

"Destroy the bridge."

Harlequin blanched. "That cannot be done...How..."

"Thayla's Voice."

Harlequin sat abruptly. "NO..."

"You know where she roams. Her song will shatter the bridge and cast
them back from the chasm. It will take them time to find it again."

Harlequin stared off into the darkness and nodded. "YES..."

"Travel lightly. Some already wander the netherworlds. It will not be
safe. They will smell you coming."

Harlequin continued to nod. "I understand..."

The figure moved forward, walking past Harlequin toward the dying
embers of the fire. "Move quickly, Laughing One; they have experience in
building their bridge."

Harlequin did not answer but stared off into the darkness of the room,
still nodding.

The figure shook his head and stepped into the fire. The embers flared
and kindled, but no heat warmed Harlequin. At last he looked up and saw his
growing shadow on the wall, and turned. He saw only the last swirls of burning
cloth as the heat from the now-raging fire danced them higher and higher.

He stared at the fire. The large, ornate doors at the far end of the
room swung open and Harlequin stood quickly. A young woman entered, her long,
white hair falling in waves over the black satin dressing gown she clutched to
her body with one hand. The other hand held a heavy-barreled chrome pistol.
"Did you..." she stammered. "I felt..."

Harlequin nodded and walked toward her. "Indeed you did. Prepare
yourself; it is time to see how much you have learned."

She stared at him. As he moved past her he turned and continued
walking, backward.

"The netherworlds..." he paused, and smiled. "Pardon my
anachronism.
The metaplanes will ring with the sounds of battle and songs long unsung." He
walked backward out of the room and down the hall.

She followed quickly. "I don't...What happened?"

"Call up your files, dear Jane, and find us some heroes."

She snorted. "Yeah, right."

Harlequin grinned broadly. "Yes, times have changed." His path arced
across the large hall they'd entered and he began ascending the staircase.

She stopped at its foot and yelled up after him. "Will you tell me
what the frag is going on?"

"Why, my dear," he said, turning away from her, "Harlequin's back.
Can't you tell?"

I personally would stay away from horror plotting atleast until after
Harlequin's back comes out - the description in the module and what can happen
will have a big effect on how people view horrors

< Right, I agree with you... So sneaky will plot his expedition 'till we'll know
< what harlequin's back will contain.

remember - most people are not yet aware of bugs, let alone Horrors which no-one
has discovered as of yet. Secondly - the older Elves and people seem to want to
keep the info about things like this hidden for a time (Harlequin said he might
have to kill Dunklezahn if he spoke up too much).

< most people are not aware of bugs ???
< with the UB illegal due to some experiments in the Barrens ???
< how was double exposure implemented here ???

As to going to tibet - that in itself would be hard and would require a lot of
planning. There will be no roads. The weather is probably worse around the
barrier because of magical flux. How would you prepare for the enviroment?
Can you speak the language - and is the even a readily accessable lingau-soft
for the various languages on your way (sure japanesse is easy to get, but what
about all those Chinesse tongues and such?)

< hey, i am a shaman !!! you know a bloody magician !
< first spell : detection type. Effect to look in the mind of the mind who is
< speaking to know what he wants to say... Is this possible ?
< to do it the other way : cast it on the guy in front of you... Then you
< will be able to talk to anyone !!! You won't speak to him directly, but you
< will understand what he is talking about (and he will too und. what you're
< saying... but if you disagree with my spell, i will try to make another
< which will do the same differently... ;)

Coming back - what would you say? would what you say be proved wrong later?
We have had this problem before with Germany - It used to be Imperial Germany,
now it suddenly was erased and became the German Free States (or whatever).
< Where is the problem ??? The important is to have fun, no ???
< And all I was asking was rumors ... I need that for my campaignn, sorry
< to use the ressources i have access to...

[SNIP]

Also - as to why I am so against it - I don't know, it just struck me as
something that should not be attempted for a bit.
(hmmm - maybe the tibetan's a have a spell that makes people forget about them
and not be curious!!!! ) :)

< right, why not ??? (*shudder* frightening idea, no ?)
< but then the players will know part of the truth, even if the characters don't
< know it... moreover, a mind probe will break through no ?

>Just a little bit annoyed by your aggressivity,

sorry about that, sometimes things don't come across properly.

My biggest suggestion would be to atleast wait untill the smoke clears from
the dante plot - there is a good possibilty of plots that start now falling by
the way side in its wake. (sort of the way things disappeared during the
Monica/Core Wars plot. - man do I FEEL OLD!!)

< Can you explain me privately the Dante plot from the beginning, please ?
< snake is very curious but his part of the story happened while he was
< looking somewhere else ... ;)
